Riga Stradiņš University: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and the international student file
Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) runs English-language programs in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy and health sciences that draw students from across Europe and beyond, and Georgians are among them. Admission requires the school leaving certificate with national exam results showing biology and chemistry, or the previous degree for transfers, translated into English or Latvian and certified, plus proof of English and, for some programs, an entrance examination; enrollment requires the apostilled originals, and the student residence permit at the PMLP requires the admission letter, proof of funds and health insurance. On graduation, the RSU diploms and diploma pielikums - issued in Latvian and English - must be apostilled by a sworn notary and translated into Georgian for the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement and the Georgian licensing procedure, with the clinical training records. We keep each student's transliteration and glossary on file from admission so the records match at graduation, and our medical translators, who are physicians, handle the clinical content.
University of Latvia, RTU, Turība and other admissions
Georgian applicants to the University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Turība University, the Stockholm School of Economics in Riga and other Latvian institutions apply through the universities' own portals, uploading certified translations of the school leaving certificate with national exam results, or the diploma and supplement for graduate programs, and language certificates (Latvian for Latvian-language programs, IELTS or TOEFL for the many English-language ones). Universities accept certified translations with our stamp for the application and require the apostilled bundle at enrollment; foreign secondary certificates for undergraduate admission are assessed by the Academic Information Centre on the university's request. We translate the full Georgian packet in one business day, in English where the program accepts it and Latvian where required.
The Academic Information Centre: recognition for employment
A Georgian degree used in Latvia for employment or for a regulated profession is assessed by the Akadēmiskās informācijas centrs (AIC), Latvia's ENIC/NARIC, which issues an izziņa on the level and, for regulated professions, refers the applicant to the competent authority - the Veselības inspekcija and the professional associations for doctors, dentists, nurses and pharmacists, the Izglītības kvalitātes valsts dienests for teachers, the Latvijas Būvinženieru savienība for civil engineers. The assessment requires the diploma and sekmju izraksts with translations into Latvian or English, and the AIC verifies the diploma with the issuing Georgian university, which can take weeks. We translate the Georgian packet in the AIC's format, in English where accepted, and for regulated health professions translate the curriculum with hours and the practice records using the terminology of Latvian medical faculties.
Latvian degrees for recognition and employment in Georgia
A Latvian degree used in Georgia - for a work permit, for a teaching, medical or engineering position, for admission to a Georgian master's or doctoral program, or for recognition at the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement - must be apostilled by a sworn notary and translated into Georgian and notarized in Tbilisi. We translate the diploms, the diploma pielikums, the sekmju izraksts and, when recognition is sought, course descriptions. Latvian degree titles - bakalaura grāds, maģistra grāds, doktora grāds, profesionālais bakalaurs - are explained in a translator's note for a Georgian committee; medical graduates should expect the recognition body to ask for the sertifikāts from the Latvian Medical Association and the residency certificate. Georgians returning from RSU and other Latvian universities are the largest group here.
School certificates, student letters and vocational qualifications
Latvian families in Tbilisi enroll children in international schools with liecības and izziņas par mācībām translated; Georgian families moving to Latvia need Georgian school records translated for the school and the Izglītības kvalitātes valsts dienests, which places the child in the right year and arranges Latvian language support. Students need izziņas par studijām and student status letters in the other language for permits, banks and health insurance. Georgian workers going to Latvia with vocational qualifications - construction, welding, driving, hospitality - need certificates translated for employers and, for regulated trades, the competent authority; Latvian profesionālās kvalifikācijas apliecības used in Georgia are translated and notarized for Georgian employers.
Motivation letters, recommendations, CVs and timing
Georgian applicants to Latvian programs ask us to translate or edit motivation letters and CVs in English or Latvian, and to translate recommendation letters from Georgian teachers and professors while preserving the signature block; doctoral candidates need research proposals, thesis abstracts and publication lists translated, and researchers collaborating with Latvian universities use our editors for articles. Native Latvian and English editors with academic backgrounds handle these texts.
On timing: RSU and other Latvian universities have spring and summer deadlines for the autumn intake, AIC assessment takes one to two months including verification with the Georgian university, notarial re-certification in Riga a few days, and the apostille on a Georgian diploma can take up to five business days. Start the apostille early, since the apostilled diploma is reusable, and ask for a digital certified translation first so you can upload it while the paper originals are in process.
