Úradný prekladateľ, úradný preklad and the Georgian notarized translation

In Slovakia an úradný preklad (also called súdny or overený preklad) is produced by an úradný prekladateľ registered with the Ministry of Justice under the Act on Experts, Interpreters and Translators for a specific language pair; the translator binds the translation to the original or a certified copy with a prekladateľská doložka and a round stamp, and this alone gives the document official value. Slovak offices require this form for foreign documents. The register contains no translator for Georgian, so Georgian documents have traditionally reached Slovak offices through an English or Russian intermediate translation, adding cost and error. Georgia has no sworn-translator register; the official form here is the translation notarized by a Georgian notary, who certifies the signature of a translator registered with that notary as competent in Slovak.

Our solution connects the two directly: we translate the Georgian original into Slovak here, notarize it, apostille it, and forward the text to a partner úradný prekladateľ for English in Bratislava who re-certifies it against the apostilled original, which Slovak offices accept in practice. An úradný preklad from Slovakia is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign notarial act; for use in Georgia the translation must be notarized here.

The národné vízum and the worker file

Most Georgians going to Slovakia go for work. The národné vízum for third-country nationals in shortage occupations, and the standard prechodný pobyt na účel zamestnania (temporary residence for employment), are applied for with the Slovak employer's documents and the worker's own: the Georgian passport, the Georgian conviction certificate from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (apostilled, translated, valid for a limited period), proof of qualifications where the job requires them, and for family members marriage and birth certificates; the Cudzinecká polícia requires úradný preklad of every foreign document. Slovak car plants, suppliers, logistics parks and their recruitment agencies send us candidate groups, which we process as one project with consistent formatting, shared transliteration rules, coordinated re-certification and a single invoice, so the employer receives uniform files and the cost per worker stays low. Seasonal work, the EU Blue Card for qualified positions, student permits and family reunification follow similar lists.

After arrival: Cudzinecká polícia, Úrad práce, matričný úrad, zdravotná poisťovňa

The Cudzinecká polícia handles residence registration, permit renewals and family reunification and requires úradný preklad for new foreign documents submitted in Slovakia. The Úrad práce handles the labor market side of work permits and requires translated diplomas and contracts for some positions. Matričné úrady registering a marriage or a foreign birth are the strictest offices and require úradný preklad of apostilled Georgian civil status documents; the matričný úrad also handles the procedure for Georgians marrying in Slovakia. Zdravotné poisťovne, the Sociálna poisťovňa and schools accept certified translations for many purposes but úradný preklad for formal ones. Slovak courts and notaries require úradný preklad of apostilled documents. For all of these we prepare the Slovak text and arrange re-certification.

Slovak documents for Georgian authorities

Any Slovak-language document used in Georgia must be translated into Georgian and notarized here. The most frequent are cestovné pasy, občianske preukazy and vodičské preukazy (translated from a photo, no visit needed), rodné and sobášne listy for marriage registration and family residence permits, the výpis z registra trestov for residence permits, diplomas for work permits and recognition, výpisy z obchodného registra, spoločenské zmluvy and plnomocenstvá for company registration, pracovné zmluvy and výpisy z účtu for proof of income, and potvrdenia from the Sociálna poisťovňa or a zdravotná poisťovňa. Slovak public documents must carry an apostille - from the Ministry of Justice or the krajský súd for court and notarial documents, from the Ministry of Education for education documents, from the Ministry of Interior for the výpis z registra trestov and civil status documents, and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for others - before the translation is notarized. We also offer e-Notary certification with a qualified electronic signature.

Marriage, family and residence files between the two countries

Georgians marrying in Slovakia present to the matričný úrad the Georgian rodný list, a marital status certificate serving as potvrdenie o osobnom stave, proof of residence and, if previously married, divorce decisions, all apostilled and translated by an úradný prekladateľ; matričné úrady want civil status documents less than six months old. Slovak citizens marrying in Georgia need a potvrdenie o osobnom stave from their matričný úrad, apostilled, translated into Georgian and notarized. After a marriage in either country, the certificate is apostilled and translated for the other country's registry, and Slovak spouses register Georgian marriages at the osobitná matrika in Bratislava through the embassy. Children born in Georgia to Slovak parents need the Georgian birth certificate apostilled and translated for the osobitná matrika and Slovak citizenship; children born in Slovakia to Georgian parents need the Slovak rodný list apostilled and translated for the Georgian embassy. We prepare these as matched sets with identical transliteration; Slovak diacritics (č, š, ž, ľ, ť, ô, ä) are transliterated by consistent rules.

Certified translation without notarization, and when it is enough

Not every recipient needs the notary or the úradný prekladateľ. Slovak universities for admission, employers for initial screening, landlords, insurers and online portals often accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and translator statement, which is quicker and cheaper. The Cudzinecká polícia, matričné úrady, Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized and re-certified one later without re-translating. For clients who submit everything online we issue digitally signed PDFs, and we print, stamp and courier the same file when paper is required.

Slovak translation - frequently asked questions

Can I use an úradný preklad from Slovakia for a Georgian residence permit?+
Not on its own. Georgian authorities require notarization by a Georgian notary. We can have the Slovak sworn translation reviewed and signed by our registered translator and notarized locally, which is cheaper than re-translating.
There is no úradný prekladateľ for Georgian in Slovakia. How does re-certification work?+
We translate from Georgian directly and a partner úradný prekladateľ for English in Bratislava reviews and certifies our text against the apostilled original, which the Cudzinecká polícia and other offices accept in practice.
How long does a výpis z registra trestov translation take?+
Once the apostilled výpis is with us, 1-2 hours for the notarized Georgian translation.
Does my Slovak employer handle the úradný prekladateľ step?+
Often the employer or agency coordinates it; we can deliver directly to the employer or to our partner úradný prekladateľ, whichever the employer prefers.
