Auktoriserad translator, bestyrkt översättning and the Georgian notarized translation

In Sweden an auktoriserad translator is authorized by Kammarkollegiet for a specific language pair after passing its examination, and an auktoriserad översättning bears the translator's stamp and number. Swedish authorities are less rigid than continental ones: Migrationsverket, Skatteverket and most agencies accept translations into Swedish or English by a professional translator with name, signature and contact details, and reserve the auktoriserad requirement for specific cases such as court proceedings, Socialstyrelsen licensing and some Skatteverket registrations. No auktoriserad translator exists for Georgian, so even Swedish offices that prefer authorization accept an auktoriserad translator for English certifying a translation reviewed against the Georgian source. Georgia has no sworn-translator register; the official form here is the translation notarized by a Georgian notary, who certifies the signature of a translator registered with that notary as competent in Swedish.

We translate the Georgian original into Swedish or English here, notarize it, apostille the original, and where a Swedish office asks for authorization, forward the text to a partner auktoriserad translator in Stockholm who re-certifies it. A Swedish auktoriserad översättning is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign document; for use in Georgia the translation must be notarized here.

Migrationsverket: work permits, study permits, family reunification

Migrationsverket handles the arbetstillstånd applied for by a Swedish employer, the EU Blue Card, the uppehållstillstånd för studier for admitted students, and uppehållstillstånd for family members and spouses, mostly through its online portal. Its checklists require copies of the Georgian passport and, depending on the category, the marriage certificate, children's birth certificates, proof of cohabitation for sambo relationships, the employment offer, the university admission and proof of funds; translations into Swedish or English are required for documents in Georgian, and apostilles are generally not demanded by Migrationsverket itself, though Skatteverket will want them later. We translate the set to match Migrationsverket's list for your category, in English where the applicant and employer prefer it, keeping your name's transliteration identical across every document and aligned with the Latin form in your Georgian passport.

Skatteverket: folkbokföring, personnummer and marriage registration

Skatteverket's population registration is where foreign documents are examined most closely. On arrival, a Georgian registering for a personnummer presents the passport, the residence permit card and, for family relationships to be recorded, the apostilled marriage certificate and children's birth certificates with translations; Skatteverket wants originals or certified copies and translations by an authorized translator or, in practice, a professional translator with credentials, and it verifies foreign civil status documents carefully. Marriages concluded in Georgia are registered at Skatteverket with the apostilled Georgian certificate and translation, and Georgians marrying in Sweden go through Skatteverket's hindersprövning with the Georgian birth certificate, a marital status certificate and, if previously married, divorce decisions, all apostilled and translated. We prepare these sets for Skatteverket's requirements and arrange authorized re-certification where a handläggare asks for it.

Försäkringskassan, Pensionsmyndigheten, Socialstyrelsen, courts

Försäkringskassan and Pensionsmyndigheten accept certified translations of Georgian employment records, insurance certificates and medical documents for benefit and pension decisions, and Pensionsmyndigheten's assessment of Georgian working years for pension purposes is a recurring file. Socialstyrelsen, which licenses doctors, dentists, nurses and other healthcare professionals, requires auktoriserad translations of diplomas, curricula and practice records, which we arrange. Swedish courts and notarius publicus require auktoriserad or legalized translations of apostilled documents. For all of these we prepare the Swedish or English text and arrange authorized re-certification where required.

Swedish documents for Georgian authorities

Any Swedish-language document used in Georgia must be translated into Georgian and notarized here. The most frequent are pass, nationella id-kort and körkort (translated from a photo, no visit needed), personbevis and utdrag from Skatteverket for marriage registration and family residence permits (Sweden issues no separate birth or marriage certificate; the personbevis serves both purposes), the utdrag ur belastningsregistret for residence permits, examensbevis for work permits and recognition, registreringsbevis from Bolagsverket, bolagsordningar and fullmakter for company registration, anställningsavtal and kontoutdrag for proof of income, and intyg from Försäkringskassan or Pensionsmyndigheten. Swedish public documents must carry an apostille - which in Sweden is issued by a notarius publicus, not a ministry - before the translation is notarized; the belastningsregistret utdrag must be opened by the notarius publicus for the apostille, so do not open the sealed envelope yourself. We also offer e-Notary certification with a qualified electronic signature.

Certified translation without notarization, and when it is enough

Not every recipient needs the notary or the auktoriserad stamp. Swedish universities for admission, employers, landlords, insurers and online portals accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and translator statement, and Migrationsverket accepts it for most permit types, which is quicker and cheaper. Skatteverket for some registrations, Socialstyrelsen, courts, Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized and re-certified one later without re-translating. For clients who submit everything online - Migrationsverket, universityadmissions.se, UHR - we issue digitally signed PDFs, and we print, stamp and courier the same file when paper is required.

Swedish translation - frequently asked questions

Can I use an auktoriserad översättning from Sweden for a Georgian residence permit?+
Not on its own. Georgian authorities require notarization by a Georgian notary. We can have the Swedish authorized translation reviewed and signed by our registered translator and notarized locally, which is cheaper than re-translating.
Should I translate into Swedish or English for Migrationsverket?+
Either is accepted. Many applicants and employers prefer English so the employer and the applicant can both read the file; we deliver whichever you choose, or both.
Skatteverket asked for an auktoriserad translator. What now?+
Send us the request; we forward our text to a partner auktoriserad translator for English in Stockholm who certifies it against the apostilled Georgian original, typically within a few days, without a second translation.
How long does a belastningsregistret translation take?+
Once the apostilled utdrag is with us, 1-2 hours for the notarized Georgian translation.
