Stipendium Hungaricum: the application packet

The Stipendium Hungaricum program, managed by the Tempus Public Foundation with Georgia's Ministry of Education as the sending partner, admits Georgian students to bachelor's, master's, one-tier master's and doctoral programs at Hungarian universities with full tuition, a stipend and accommodation. The online application requires the school leaving certificate with national exam results or the diploma and transcript, translated into Hungarian or English and certified by a translator; a motivation letter; language certificates (English for most programs, Hungarian for Hungarian-taught ones); a medical certificate; and for some programs portfolios or research plans. The Georgian nominating authority runs its own preliminary selection with its own document list. We translate the packet into English or Hungarian as the program requires, certify it, and later upgrade to the apostilled and notarized bundle for enrollment and the student residence permit, keeping the student's transliteration on file for the whole degree.

Semmelweis, Debrecen, Pécs and Szeged: medicine, dentistry and pharmacy

Hungary's four medical universities run English-language programs in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy that have trained large numbers of Georgian doctors, both on scholarship and self-funded, and their admission and enrollment require the school leaving certificate with strong biology and chemistry results, or the previous degree for transfers, translated and certified, plus an entrance examination in biology, chemistry and English. On graduation, the Hungarian oklevél - issued in Hungarian and Latin, with the degree title in both - must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and translated into Georgian for the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement and the Georgian professional licensing procedure, together with the leckekönyv or transcript and proof of clinical training. Our medical translators, who are physicians, and our Latinists handle these diplomas together, and we keep each student's file from admission so the records match at graduation.

The Ekvivalencia Központ: recognition of Georgian degrees in Hungary

A Georgian degree used in Hungary for employment or for a regulated profession goes through the Magyar Ekvivalencia és Információs Központ within the Oktatási Hivatal, which issues a határozat on the level and, where applicable, the professional qualification; universities recognize foreign qualifications for continuing study themselves. The application requires the apostilled diploma and supplement or transcript with OFFI's hiteles fordítás, proof of the program's length and content, and for some fields the curriculum; regulated health professions additionally go through the Ministry of Interior's health department and the relevant chamber with translated proof of practice, and often an examination or adaptation period. We prepare the Georgian packet in the format the Központ expects, arrange OFFI certification, and for Georgian nurses and doctors seeking Hungarian licensing translate clinical subjects using the terminology of Hungarian medical faculties.

Hungarian degrees for recognition and employment in Georgia

A Hungarian degree used in Georgia - for a work permit, for a teaching, medical or engineering position, for admission to a Georgian master's or doctoral program, or for recognition at the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement - must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and translated into Georgian and notarized in Tbilisi. We translate the oklevél, the oklevélmelléklet (diploma supplement), the leckekönyv or transcript and, when recognition is sought, tantárgyleírások. Hungarian degrees carry titles - okleveles mérnök, jogász, orvosdoktor - and the older egyetemi and főiskolai distinction that a Georgian committee needs explained, which we do in a translator's note; medical graduates should expect the recognition body to ask for the szakorvosi certificate and Magyar Orvosi Kamara registration. Georgians returning from Hungarian universities are the largest group here.

School certificates, student letters and vocational qualifications

Hungarian families in Tbilisi enroll children in international schools or Georgian public schools with bizonyítványok and iskolalátogatási igazolások translated; Georgian families moving to Hungary need Georgian school records translated for the school and the Oktatási Hivatal's recognition of foreign primary and secondary education, which places the child in the right year. Students need hallgatói jogviszony-igazolások and student status letters in the other language for permits, banks, health insurance and the Georgian military registration office. Georgians going to Hungary under the guest worker scheme with vocational qualifications need their certificates translated for employers and the permit application, and Hungarian szakképesítés certificates and OKJ qualifications used in Georgia are translated and notarized for Georgian employers.

Motivation letters, recommendations, CVs and timing

Georgian applicants to Stipendium Hungaricum and Hungarian universities ask us to translate or edit motivation letters and CVs in English or Hungarian, and to translate recommendation letters from Georgian teachers and professors while preserving the signature block; doctoral candidates need research plans, thesis abstracts and publication lists translated, and researchers collaborating with Hungarian institutions use our editors for articles. Native Hungarian and English editors with academic backgrounds handle these texts.

On timing: the Stipendium Hungaricum application opens in November and closes in mid-January for the following September, Hungarian university deadlines for self-funded students fall in spring and summer, the Ekvivalencia Központ takes two to three months, OFFI certification one to two weeks, and the apostille on a Georgian diploma can take up to five business days. Start the apostille early, since the apostilled diploma is reusable, and ask for a digital certified translation first so you can upload it while the paper originals are in process.

Hungarian translation - frequently asked questions

Should I translate my documents into Hungarian or English for Stipendium Hungaricum?+
Either is accepted; English is usually more practical because most programs are English-taught and the same translation serves other applications. Hungarian-taught programs may prefer Hungarian. We deliver whichever you choose, or both.
I graduated from Semmelweis. What do I need to practice in Georgia?+
The apostilled oklevél, translated from Hungarian and Latin, the transcript and proof of clinical training, all notarized, for the recognition center and the licensing procedure. Our physician translators and Latinists handle these files together.
Does the Ekvivalencia Központ require OFFI?+
Yes. We prepare the Hungarian text and arrange OFFI certification through our partner, which is faster than OFFI translating from Georgian itself.
How long does a full academic packet take?+
Diploma, supplement and transcripts are usually ready within one business day. Apostille adds up to five business days, and OFFI certification one to two weeks where required.
