Notarized and Certified Hungarian Translation - OFFI, Hiteles Fordítás and the Georgian Notary
Hungary has a state translation monopoly for the most formal purposes and accepts ordinary certified translations for many others. Knowing which is which saves weeks and money. We produce the Georgian format for Georgian authorities in 1-2 hours, and Hungarian translations built for the embassy, the universities and, where only its stamp will do, OFFI.

OFFI, hiteles fordítás, szakfordítás and the Georgian notarized translation
Hungarian law distinguishes hiteles fordítás - a certified translation with legal force, which for most official purposes only the Országos Fordító és Fordításhitelesítő Iroda (OFFI) may produce - from szakfordítás, a professional translation with the translator's or agency's certification, which qualified translators may produce and which many procedures accept. Anyakönyvi hivatalok (registry offices) registering marriages and births, the Oktatási Hivatal's Magyar Ekvivalencia és Információs Központ recognizing degrees, courts, közjegyzők and the Kormányablak for many procedures require OFFI's hiteles fordítás of foreign documents; the Országos Idegenrendészeti Főigazgatóság accepts szakfordítás for some residence permit documents and requires hiteles for others, at the case officer's discretion; Stipendium Hungaricum, universities, employers and the embassy accept szakfordítás or translations certified abroad. OFFI itself has no translator for Georgian and works from an intermediate language, so its Georgian translations are slow and expensive.
Georgia has the notarized translation certified by a Georgian notary. Our approach: we translate the Georgian original into Hungarian here, notarize it, apostille the original, and deliver it as a certified translation for the procedures that accept one; where a Hungarian office requires OFFI's hiteles fordítás, we submit our text to OFFI through a partner for certification, which OFFI can do on the basis of an existing translation faster and cheaper than translating from Georgian itself. A Hungarian hiteles fordítás is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign document; for use in Georgia the translation must be notarized here.
The Hungarian Embassy in Tbilisi and the Idegenrendészet: visas and residence permits
The embassy's consular section handles Schengen visas and the intake of residence permit applications - for study (tartózkodási engedély tanulmányi célból, which Stipendium Hungaricum students obtain), for employment and the guest worker scheme (vendégmunkás-tartózkodási engedély), for family reunification, and for other purposes - which are decided by the Országos Idegenrendészeti Főigazgatóság in Hungary. Checklists require Georgian documents with apostille and Hungarian or English translation, and for most categories a translation certified abroad or a szakfordítás is accepted; family reunification files with civil status documents may be referred to OFFI. The documents vary by category - the conviction certificate and marriage certificate for family reunification, the admission letter and proof of funds for students, the employment contract and the employer's documents for workers - and we assemble the translated set to match the checklist for your category, with your name's transliteration identical across every document and the Hungarian name order and date format handled explicitly.
Anyakönyvi hivatal, Kormányablak and marriage in Hungary
Anyakönyvi hivatalok are the strictest Hungarian offices: registering a marriage between a Georgian and a Hungarian citizen, or a foreign birth or marriage of a Hungarian citizen, requires OFFI's hiteles fordítás of the apostilled Georgian documents - the születési anyakönyvi kivonat equivalent, a certificate of no impediment to marriage (házassági akadálymentességi igazolás equivalent, the Georgian marital status certificate), and for previously married applicants divorce decisions - and the anyakönyvvezető may also require a tanúsítvány on Georgian marriage law. A Hungarian citizen marrying in Georgia needs a házassági akadálymentességi tanúsítvány from their anyakönyvi hivatal or the embassy, apostilled, translated into Georgian and notarized. The Kormányablak (government window) handles the lakcímkártya, the TAJ card for health insurance, the adóazonosító jel for tax and many other registrations for foreigners, and accepts szakfordítás for most of them. We prepare both sides of these files and arrange OFFI certification where required.
Hungarian documents for Georgian authorities
Any Hungarian-language document used in Georgia must be translated into Georgian and notarized here. The most frequent are útlevelek, személyi igazolványok and vezetői engedélyek (translated from a photo, no visit needed), születési and házassági anyakönyvi kivonatok for marriage registration and family residence permits, the erkölcsi bizonyítvány for residence permits, oklevelek for work permits and recognition, cégkivonatok, alapító okiratok and meghatalmazások for company registration, munkaszerződések and bankszámlakivonatok for proof of income, and igazolások from the NAV or the health insurance fund. Hungarian public documents must carry an apostille - from the Ministry of Justice for court and notarial documents, from the Magyar Országos Közjegyzői Kamara for documents certified by közjegyzők, and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade for all others including anyakönyvi kivonatok, erkölcsi bizonyítványok and oklevelek - before the translation is notarized. Hungarian names are rendered in Georgian in the order Georgian forms expect, with a note preserving the Hungarian order, and year-month-day dates are converted explicitly. We also offer e-Notary certification with a qualified electronic signature.
Stipendium Hungaricum, universities and employers: where certified translation is enough
The largest Hungarian-Georgian document flow is academic, and it does not need OFFI. Stipendium Hungaricum applications through the Tempus Public Foundation's portal accept translations into Hungarian or English certified by a translator, as do Hungarian universities admitting Georgian students directly, and employers hiring Georgians under the guest worker scheme accept certified translations of qualifications for the permit application. We deliver certified translations with our stamp and translator statement for these, and upgrade to the apostilled and notarized bundle for enrollment and the residence permit. Landlords, banks for account opening, health insurers and online portals likewise accept certified translations. The exceptions are the anyakönyvi hivatal, the Ekvivalencia Központ, courts and közjegyzők, where OFFI is mandatory, and the Idegenrendészet where the case officer decides; we tell you which applies before you pay for anything.
Certified translation without notarization, and when it is enough
For Georgian purposes, universities, employers, landlords, insurers and online platforms often accept a certified translation with our agency stamp, which is quicker and cheaper; Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks require the notarized translation. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized or OFFI-certified one later without re-translating. For clients who submit everything online - the Stipendium Hungaricum portal, university portals, the Idegenrendészet's Enter Hungary system - we issue digitally signed PDFs, and we print, stamp and courier the same file when paper is required.
