Notarized and Certified Lithuanian Translation - Notarial Certification, MIGRIS and the Georgian Notary

Lithuania certifies translations through notaries and declines every name; Georgia notarizes translations. We produce the Georgian format for Georgian authorities in 1-2 hours, and Lithuanian translations built for MIGRIS, the civil registry and the SKVC, re-certified in Vilnius where they insist.

How Lithuania certifies translations, and how Georgia does

Lithuania has no register of sworn translators. A translation of a foreign document for official use is certified by a notaras attesting the translator's signature and identity (notaro patvirtintas vertimas), which civil registry offices, courts, notaries and some Migration Department procedures require, or by a translation bureau's stamp and the translator's declaration, which the Migration Department, universities, employers and most agencies accept. Georgia has the notarized translation certified by a Georgian notary attesting a registered translator's signature. Neither is accepted in the other country directly, but the systems are close cousins: our translation of a Georgian document into Lithuanian, certified with our stamp and declaration, satisfies most Lithuanian offices as it stands, and where a Lithuanian notary's certification is required, a partner translator in Vilnius signs our text before a notaras. A Lithuanian notarially certified translation is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign notarial act; for use in Georgia the translation must be notarized here.

Lithuanian declension: names on Lithuanian documents

Lithuanian grammar requires personal names in Lithuanian text to take Lithuanian endings, and while Lithuanian documents for foreigners now generally preserve the original Latin form of the name in the identity fields, translations, contracts and correspondence in Lithuanian decline the name (Giorgis Beridzė, Giorgio Beridzės), and Georgian offices later seeing a Lithuanian document may find the name in a case form that does not match the passport. We translate Lithuanian documents with the declined form and its nominative and passport form side by side, add a translator's note explaining the Lithuanian rule, and keep the Georgian spelling fixed on file, so registrars in both countries understand they are looking at the same person. In the other direction, we render Georgian names in Lithuanian translations with correct Lithuanian endings where the text requires them and the original form in identity fields, as Lithuanian practice expects.

The Migration Department, MIGRIS and the national visa D

Most Georgians going to Lithuania go to drive trucks. The Lithuanian employer registers the vacancy with the Užimtumo tarnyba and applies through MIGRIS for a national visa D or a temporary residence permit for the worker, whose documents - the Georgian passport, the Georgian conviction certificate from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (apostilled, translated, valid for a limited period), the driving license and professional qualifications (kodas 95, ADR where relevant), a health certificate for some positions, and for family members marriage and birth certificates - are uploaded to MIGRIS with translations into Lithuanian or English. The Migration Department accepts certified translations for most of these and asks for notarial certification for civil status documents in some cases; the visa is issued through the Lithuanian Embassy in Tbilisi or an external service provider. Transport companies and agencies send us driver groups, which we process as one project with consistent formatting, shared transliteration rules, per-driver rates and a single invoice, and we translate the company's contract template, house rules and safety materials into Georgian once for reuse.

Civilinės metrikacijos skyriai, notarai, courts and the asmens kodas

Civil registry offices (civilinės metrikacijos skyriai) registering a marriage or a foreign birth are the strictest Lithuanian offices and require notarially certified translations of apostilled Georgian civil status documents; the registry also handles the procedure for Georgians marrying in Lithuania. Notarai handling property transactions, inheritance and įgaliojimai require notarially certified translations, as do the courts and the Registrų centras for property and company registration. The Migracijos departamentas assigns the asmens kodas to foreigners with residence permits, and the Sodra for social insurance, the VMI for tax and the Užimtumo tarnyba accept certified translations for most purposes. For all of these we prepare the Lithuanian text and arrange re-certification where required.

Lithuanian documents for Georgian authorities

Any Lithuanian-language document used in Georgia must be translated into Georgian and notarized here. The most frequent are pasai, asmens tapatybės kortelės and vairuotojo pažymėjimai (translated from a photo, no visit needed), gimimo and santuokos liudijimai for marriage registration and family residence permits, the pažyma dėl teistumo for residence permits, diplomai for work permits and recognition, Registrų centras išrašai, įstatai and įgaliojimai for company registration, darbo sutartys and sąskaitos išrašai for proof of income, and pažymos from Sodra or the VMI. Lithuanian public documents must carry an apostille, which in Lithuania is issued by any notaras, before the translation is notarized; documents signed with a Lithuanian qualified e-signature are translated from the digital file with the signature verified. We also offer e-Notary certification with a qualified electronic signature.

Marriage, family and residence files, and certified translation without a notary

Georgians marrying in Lithuania present to the civilinės metrikacijos skyrius the Georgian birth certificate, a marital status certificate serving as pažyma apie šeiminę padėtį, proof of identity and, if previously married, divorce decisions, all apostilled and translated with notarial certification; the registry sets a one-month waiting period. Lithuanian citizens marrying in Georgia present a pažyma apie šeiminę padėtį from the Registrų centras or the civil registry, apostilled by a notary, translated into Georgian and notarized. After a marriage in either country, the certificate is apostilled and translated for the other country's register, and Lithuanian spouses register Georgian marriages at a civil registry office through the embassy.

Not every recipient needs the notary. Lithuanian universities for admission, employers, transport companies, the Užimtumo tarnyba, landlords, insurers and online portals accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and translator statement, and the Migration Department accepts it for most documents, which is quicker and cheaper. Civil registry offices, notaries, courts, Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded later without re-translating.

Lithuanian translation - frequently asked questions

Can I use a notarially certified translation from Lithuania for a Georgian residence permit?+
Not on its own. Georgian authorities require notarization by a Georgian notary. We can have the Lithuanian translation reviewed and signed by our registered translator and notarized locally, which is cheaper than re-translating.
Does MIGRIS require notarial certification of translations?+
For most documents a certified translation suffices; for civil status documents in some cases the Migration Department asks for notarial certification, which our Vilnius partner provides.
My Lithuanian contract writes my name as Giorgio Beridzės. Is that a problem in Georgia?+
Not with our translation. We show the declined form and the passport form side by side with a note on the Lithuanian rule, and keep your Georgian spelling fixed so every document matches.
How long does a pažyma dėl teistumo translation take?+
Once the apostilled pažyma is with us, 1-2 hours for the notarized Georgian translation.
