Notarized and Certified Serbian Translation - Sudski Tumač, Two Scripts and the Georgian Notary
Serbia appoints court translators through its Ministry of Justice and writes in two alphabets; Georgia notarizes translations. We produce the Georgian format for Georgian authorities in 1-2 hours, and Serbian translations built to pass through a sudski tumač in the script the office expects.

Sudski tumač, overeni prevod and the Georgian notarized translation
In Serbia an overeni prevod is produced by a sudski tumač (also called sudski prevodilac) appointed by the Ministry of Justice or, in Vojvodina, the provincial secretariat, and listed for a specific language; the translator binds the translation to the original or a certified copy with a klauzula and a round stamp, and this alone gives the document official value. Serbian offices require this form for foreign documents. No sudski tumač is registered for Georgian, so Georgian documents have traditionally reached Serbian offices through an English or Russian relay translation, with the errors that implies. Georgia has no sworn-translator register; the official form here is the translation notarized by a Georgian notary, who certifies the signature of a translator registered with that notary as competent in Serbian.
Our solution connects the two directly: we translate the Georgian original into Serbian here, notarize it, apostille it, and forward the text to a partner sudski tumač for English or Russian in Belgrade who re-certifies it as a translation reviewed against the apostilled original, which Serbian offices accept in practice. An overeni prevod from Serbia is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign notarial act; for use in Georgia the translation must be notarized here.
Scripts and standards: Cyrillic, Latin and ekavian
Serbia's constitution makes Serbian in Cyrillic the official language and script, and state bodies, courts, matične službe and the Ministry of Interior issue and often expect documents in Cyrillic; in daily practice, business, universities, employers and much of the media use Latin, and both scripts are read by everyone. Serbian is written in the ekavian standard (mleko, lepo, reka), distinct from the ijekavian of Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia, and a Serbian office may notice and object to an ijekavian text. For Georgian documents going to Serbia we deliver in Cyrillic for state bodies and courts and in Latin for employers and universities unless told otherwise, always in ekavian. For Serbian documents coming to Georgia we read both scripts and note the script of the source, which occasionally matters for Georgian registrars comparing an older Cyrillic extract with a Latin-script passport.
The jedinstvena dozvola and the worker file
Since February 2024 Serbia issues a jedinstvena dozvola za privremeni boravak i rad (single permit) through the Ministry of Interior, applied for online by the employer or the worker, replacing the separate residence and work permits, and the labor shortage in automotive suppliers, Chinese-financed factories in Zrenjanin, Smederevo and Bor, construction, logistics, hospitality and IT has opened it to Georgian workers alongside those from Nepal, India and Turkey. The file requires the Georgian passport, the Georgian conviction certificate from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (apostilled, translated, valid for a limited period), proof of qualifications where the job requires them, a health certificate, and for family members marriage and birth certificates; the Ministry requires sudski tumač translations. We assemble the translated set to match the Ministry's list, keep your name's transliteration identical across every document and in both scripts, arrange the re-certification, and for agencies sending groups we process the group as one project with per-worker rates.
Matične službe, javni beležnici, courts and property
Matične službe registering a marriage or a foreign birth are the strictest Serbian offices and require sudski prevodi of apostilled Georgian civil status documents; the matična služba also handles the procedure for Georgians marrying in Serbia. Serbia's javni beležnici (public notaries), who since 2014 handle property transactions, inheritance and powers of attorney, require sudski prevodi of foreign documents, as do the courts and the Republički geodetski zavod (cadastre) for property registration. Georgians buying property in Belgrade or Novi Sad, inheriting from Serbian relatives or granting punomoćja for Serbian matters, and Serbs doing the same in Georgia through our notary at Agmashenebeli 117, use these routes. For all of them we prepare the Serbian text and arrange re-certification.
Serbian documents for Georgian authorities
Any Serbian-language document used in Georgia must be translated into Georgian and notarized here. The most frequent are pasoši, lične karte and vozačke dozvole (translated from a photo, no visit needed), izvodi iz matične knjige rođenih and venčanih for marriage registration and family residence permits, the uverenje o nekažnjavanju and uverenje da se ne vodi krivični postupak for residence permits, diplomas for work permits and recognition, izvodi iz APR, osnivački akti and punomoćja for company registration, ugovori o radu and izvodi iz banke for proof of income. Serbian public documents must carry an apostille - issued by the osnovni sud (basic court) of the place of issue for most documents, and by the Ministry of Justice for certain categories - before the translation is notarized. Marriage between Georgian and Serbian citizens, and children of mixed families, generate matched document sets that we prepare with identical transliteration in both scripts; Serbian č, ć, đ, š and ž are transliterated by consistent rules.
Certified translation without notarization, and when it is enough
Not every recipient needs the notary or the sudski tumač. Serbian universities for admission, employers for initial screening, landlords, insurers and online portals often accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and translator statement, which is quicker and cheaper. The Ministry of Interior, matične službe, javni beležnici, Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized and re-certified one later without re-translating. For clients who submit everything online - the single permit portal, university portals - we issue digitally signed PDFs, and we print, stamp and courier the same file when paper is required.
