How a Georgian notarized translation works, and why the Armenian one is not enough
The mechanism is the same on both sides of the border. A Georgian notary certifies the signature of a translator personally registered with that notary as competent in Armenian; the translation is bound to a copy of the original, stamped and numbered, and becomes a Georgian notarial document that every state body must accept. An Armenian notary does the same in Armenia for translators registered there. A translation notarized in Yerevan is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign notarial act: it would itself need recognition and would then still need to be translated, so it is never the efficient route, and vice versa. Do not pay for a notarized translation in Armenia for use in Georgia. Bring the original, or a good photo of it, and have the translation done here where it will be used.
Marriage at the House of Justice and family documents
Marriage between Armenian and Georgian citizens, and marriage of Armenian citizens in Georgia, is one of the most frequent files we handle. The House of Justice requires the Armenian passport, a certificate that there is no impediment to marriage (issued by the ՔԿԱԳ or the Armenian Embassy in Tbilisi), and for previously married applicants the divorce certificate or court decision, all translated into Georgian and notarized here; whether the Armenian civil documents need an apostille depends on the office, and we check. After the marriage, the Georgian marriage certificate is translated into Armenian, notarized and apostilled for registration in Armenia. Birth certificates of children born in Tbilisi to Armenian parents go the same route for Armenian citizenship and passport applications at the embassy. Family reunification residence permits require Armenian marriage and birth certificates translated and notarized, and we keep the transliteration of every family member's name consistent across all documents.
Residence permits, work permits and citizenship
Armenian citizens applying for Georgian temporary residence permits - work, study, family, the labor permit for freelancers - need a notarized Georgian translation of the passport, the police clearance certificate from the Armenian Police (apostilled by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), a marriage or birth certificate if family members are included, a diploma for work-based permits, and bank statements or an employment contract as proof of income. Applications for Georgian citizenship, which are common among Armenian citizens with long residence or Georgian ancestry, add school and university records and sometimes Soviet-era documents proving birth or residence in Georgia. We assemble the full set in one order and notarize everything in a single notary session.
Inheritance and property across the border
Families divided by the border generate inheritance cases in both directions. An heir in Tbilisi to property in Yerevan needs Georgian death certificates, birth and marriage certificates proving kinship, and Georgian notarial applications translated into Armenian, notarized and apostilled for the Armenian notary handling the estate. An heir in Armenia to an apartment in Tbilisi or land in Javakheti needs the Armenian equivalents translated into Georgian and notarized for the Georgian notary, and the Armenian court decisions or notarial certificates of inheritance recognized here. Soviet-era documents - birth certificates from the 1950s, work books, house books - are common in these files and require careful handling of Russian and old Armenian forms. Our notary at Agmashenebeli 117 handles Georgian inheritance applications directly, with an Armenian interpreter present, so the translation and the notarial act happen in one visit.
Bank compliance and business documents
Georgian banks ask Armenian clients for translated proof of income and source of funds: employment contracts, tax statements from the State Revenue Committee, property sale agreements, dividend records and, for business accounts, company documents. Armenian founders registering Georgian LLCs or individual entrepreneur status - common for transit, logistics, wine and IT businesses - need a notarized translation of the passport and, for corporate founders, the State Register extract, charter and founding decision, apostilled in Armenia. Powers of attorney from Armenia to a Georgian representative are translated and notarized here. Once the Georgian company exists, its Public Registry extract and charter are translated into Armenian for the founder's Armenian banks and the State Revenue Committee.
Georgian documents notarized for Armenia, and certified translation without a notary
Georgian civil status certificates, court decisions, Public Registry extracts, diplomas and medical records going to Armenia are translated into Armenian and notarized here, and apostilled through the relevant Georgian authority. Armenian civil registries, courts, notaries, universities and the State Revenue Committee accept this bundle; some notaries in Armenia additionally re-certify the translation locally, which a representative can do using our text. Typical uses are registration in Armenia of marriages concluded in Georgia, Armenian passports for children born in Tbilisi, Armenian pension applications with Georgian employment records, inheritance, and diploma recognition.
Not every recipient needs the notary. Universities, employers, landlords, insurers and online platforms often accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and the translator's signed statement, which is quicker and cheaper. Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized one later without re-translating, and our e-Notary option produces a PDF with a qualified electronic signature that Georgian registries accept online.
