Sudski tumači in the Federation, Republika Srpska and Brčko, and the Georgian notarized translation
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, translations for official use are made by stalni sudski tumači, appointed after examination and sworn in: in the Federation by the cantonal ministries of justice (Sarajevo Canton, Tuzla Canton, Zenica-Doboj, Herzegovina-Neretva and the others each keep their own list), in Republika Srpska by the entity Ministry of Justice, and in Brčko District by the judicial commission; a sudski tumač's translation bears their stamp and statement and is accepted by authorities throughout the country regardless of where the tumač was appointed. No sudski tumač has ever been appointed for Georgian anywhere in Bosnia, and Georgian documents have traditionally gone through English, German or Russian relay translations by tumači for those languages. Bosnian law also recognizes foreign notarial acts with an apostille, and many authorities - the Služba za poslove sa strancima, most matični uredi, universities for admission, employers, banks - accept a Georgian notarized and apostilled translation on that basis. Georgia has the translation notarized by a Georgian notary, who certifies the signature of a translator registered as competent in Bosnian.
We translate the Georgian original into Bosnian here, notarize it, apostille the original and, where a Bosnian court or office insists on a sudski tumač, forward the text to a partner tumač for English in Sarajevo who certifies it against the apostilled Georgian original with an English bridge, typically within a few days. A sudski tumač translation from Bosnia is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign document; for use in Georgia the translation must be notarized here.
The Služba za poslove sa strancima: residence in Bosnia
The Service for Foreigners' Affairs (Služba za poslove sa strancima), a state-level agency with field offices in every region, decides temporary residence for Georgians as employees (after the entity employment service issues a work permit), as students, as spouses and family members of Bosnian citizens and residents, as founders and owners of Bosnian companies and as property owners, and it decides permanent residence after five years. Its checklists require the Georgian passport, an apostilled Georgian conviction certificate, proof of means and accommodation, health insurance, and by category the work permit and contract, the university enrollment, the apostilled marriage and birth certificates, or the company extract and proof of investment, all with translations by a sudski tumač or, in practice, notarized and apostilled translations from abroad. We assemble the translated set to match the Služba's list for your category, with the transliteration of your name identical across every document and the conviction certificate treated as express work because of its validity window.
Matični uredi, marriage and citizenship
Civil registration in Bosnia is municipal: the matični ured of each općina in the Federation, each opština in Republika Srpska and the Brčko District keeps the matične knjige of births, marriages, deaths and citizens, and issues izvodi and uvjerenja from them; the forms differ between entities, Republika Srpska's are often in Cyrillic, and the uvjerenje o državljanstvu (citizenship certificate) is a separate document Bosnian citizens are asked for constantly. A Georgian marrying in Bosnia presents the birth certificate, a certificate of marital status and, if applicable, divorce decisions, apostilled and translated, and the matičar registers the marriage; a Bosnian citizen marrying in Georgia presents a rodni list and a uvjerenje o slobodnom bračnom stanju, apostilled by a Bosnian court, translated into Georgian and notarized. Registration of a marriage or birth that took place in Georgia in the Bosnian matične knjige, and citizenship applications by marriage or descent through the Ministry of Civil Affairs, use the same documents. We prepare these sets and know which entity's form the office expects.
Courts, registration courts and universities
Bosnian courts - the općinski and kantonalni sudovi in the Federation, the osnovni and okružni sudovi in Republika Srpska, the Osnovni sud Brčko Distrikta and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina - require sudski tumač translations of foreign documents in proceedings, as do the registration courts (registarski sudovi) that register companies in each entity and the notaries who draft founding acts. Universities (Sarajevo, Banja Luka, Tuzla, Mostar, Zenica, Bihać and the private ones) require sudski tumač translations of apostilled diplomas for admission and nostrification, and the Ministry of Civil Affairs and the entity education ministries for recognition. For all of these we prepare the Bosnian text and arrange re-certification through Sarajevo, delivering the apostilled original, our notarized translation and the tumač's certification as one bundle.
Bosnian documents for Georgian authorities
Any Bosnian-language document used in Georgia must be translated into Georgian and notarized here. The most frequent are pasoši, lične karte and vozačke dozvole (translated from a photo, no visit needed), rodni and vjenčani listovi and uvjerenja o državljanstvu for marriage registration and family residence permits, the uvjerenje o nekažnjavanju from the police or court for residence permits, diplome and uvjerenja o položenim ispitima for work permits and recognition, izvodi iz sudskog registra and osnivački akti for company registration, punomoći, ugovori o radu and bank statements for proof of income, and uvjerenja from the Porezna uprava, the PIO/MIO pension funds and the zavod za zapošljavanje. Bosnian public documents must carry the apostille of the competent court before the translation is notarized. We also offer e-Notary certification with a qualified electronic signature.
Certified translation without notarization, and when it is enough
Not every recipient needs the notary or the sudski tumač. Universities for initial admission, employers, landlords, insurers, sports federations for preliminary registration and online portals accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and translator statement, which is quicker and cheaper. The Služba za poslove sa strancima, matični uredi, courts, registration courts, Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized and re-certified one later without re-translating. For clients who submit documents by email or through university portals we issue digitally signed PDFs, and we print, stamp and courier the same file when paper is required.
