🪪 Personal documents - certified translation in Tbilisi
Personal Document Translation - Certified, Notarized and Apostilled in Tbilisi in 1-2 Hours
Residence permits, visas, marriage abroad, university enrollment, bank accounts, property purchases and travel with children all start with the same short list of personal documents. We translate them into and from 49 languages, notarize them at our own notary at David Agmashenebeli Ave 117, apostille them where the receiving country requires, and deliver most of them within the same afternoon. This page explains each document, what the receiving office actually checks, and how to order.

The seven personal documents almost every file is built from
Whatever the purpose - a Georgian residence permit for a foreign spouse, a Schengen or UK visa for a Georgian family, a wedding in Denmark or Cyprus, a study place in Germany or a work permit in Poland - the receiving office asks for a version of the same set: an identity document, one or more civil status certificates, sometimes a driving license, a criminal record check, a consent for a travelling child, a certificate of marital status or of residence, and proof of income. Each has its own format, its own certification rules and its own validity window, and each is described on its own page:
- Passports and ID cards - translated from a photo, no visit and no original needed, the document that fixes how your name is spelled in every later translation.
- Birth, marriage, divorce and death certificates - the civil status documents behind marriage, family residence permits, inheritance and citizenship, with apostille in both directions.
- Driving licenses - for exchanging a license at the Service Agency, driving abroad, rental companies and insurance claims.
- Police clearance certificates - the criminal record check every residence permit requires, with the shortest validity window of any document.
- Child travel consents - drafted bilingually at our notary or translated from a foreign consent, for borders, airlines and schools.
- Marital status and residential certificates - the certificate of no impediment for marrying abroad and the proof of address banks and tax offices ask for.
- Bank statements and proof of funds - for visas, residence permits, universities and property, translated in full or in the abridged form consulates accept.
Three levels of certification, and which one you need
Every personal document we translate is delivered at one of three levels, and choosing the right one saves money and a second visit. A certified translation carries our agency stamp, the translator's signature and a statement of accuracy; it is accepted by universities at the application stage, employers, landlords, insurers, airlines, many foreign consulates for visa files, and online portals, and it is the fastest and cheapest option. A notarized translation is certified by a Georgian notary, who confirms the signature of a translator registered with that notary as competent in the language; Georgian authorities - the Public Service Development Agency for residence permits, the House of Justice for marriage and civil registration, courts, the Public Registry and banks - accept nothing less for foreign documents, and most foreign civil registries, immigration offices and courts require it for Georgian documents. An apostilled translation adds the Hague apostille to the notarized translation (and usually to the original), which makes it valid in the roughly 125 Hague member countries without further legalization; for the handful of non-Hague destinations - Vietnam, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Malaysia among them - we run consular legalization instead. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the level; a certified translation can be upgraded later without re-translating.
What we get right that other translations get wrong
Personal documents are short, and every word on them is checked against another document, so the errors that get files returned are small and specific. Names: we transliterate from the passport's machine-readable line, fix the spelling in your file, and use it on every later document, because a birth certificate spelled one way and a passport another is the single most common reason a residence permit or visa file is queried. Dates and numbers: personal numbers, passport numbers, dates of issue and expiry and the codes on the machine-readable zone are reproduced exactly and re-checked by a second reader. Stamps and seals: every stamp, seal, marginal note and handwritten entry is translated, because a foreign registrar who sees an untranslated stamp rejects the page. Format: the translation mirrors the original field by field, in the same order, so an officer can lay the two side by side. Country rules: our language teams know that a German Führungszeugnis is purpose-specific, that a Thai date is in the Buddhist Era, that an Italian estratto and a certificato are different documents and that a Kazakh spouse's consent is needed for a Batumi property purchase, and they say so before you submit.
Pricing and turnaround for personal documents
Personal documents are priced at fixed rates per document type rather than per page, because their length is predictable: one price for a passport, one for a birth certificate, one for a police clearance certificate, whatever the language, with a modest supplement for rare languages. Notarization is charged per notarial act at the notary's tariff, the apostille at the state fee plus our handling, and courier delivery at cost. A quote sent on WhatsApp is fixed; the price does not change when the document arrives.
- Passport, ID card, driving license: 1-2 hours, notarized, from a photo.
- Birth, marriage, divorce, death certificate, marital status or residence certificate, police clearance certificate: 1-2 hours, notarized, from the original or a legalized copy.
- Child travel consent drafted at our notary: same day, with an interpreter if a parent does not speak Georgian.
- Bank statement: 1-2 hours for a short statement, same day for a long one.
- Apostille on a Georgian document: add 1-5 business days depending on the issuing body.
- Consular legalization for a non-Hague country: add two to four weeks.
How to order, from Tbilisi or from anywhere
Send a clear photo of every page, both sides, stamps legible, on WhatsApp or Telegram, and say which office in which country will receive the translation; the quote arrives within 15 minutes with the certification level we recommend and the sequence of steps. Passports, ID cards and driving licenses need nothing more - the notarized translation is made from the photo and delivered by scan and courier. For other documents, bring the original (or the apostilled or legalized original, where the chain applies) to Agmashenebeli 117, near Marjanishvili Metro, when the translation is ready, and it is notarized while you wait; or courier it from Batumi, Kutaisi or any other city and receive the finished set back by courier, since our Batumi and Kutaisi offices are being renovated. Clients abroad whose Georgian documents are with family in Georgia have us collect, translate, notarize, apostille and ship by DHL with tracking. Every document is also available as an e-Notary certified PDF with a qualified electronic signature for online submissions, and every translation we make for you stays in your file, so the next document matches the last.
