Passports, 運転免許証 and マイナンバーカード

The passport is the first document every Japanese citizen in Georgia needs translated: for the residence permit, for company registration, for property purchase, for a bank account, for a lease and for marriage. We translate and notarize the Japanese passport from a clear photo, without the original and without apostille, and courier the notarized translation to you - the only fully online notarized translation in Tbilisi. Japanese 運転免許証 are translated for the Service Agency, for rental and insurance companies and for employers; the license shows the classes and conditions in a format we annotate for Georgian inspectors, and the 有効期限 is converted from the era date. The マイナンバーカード serves as identification but Georgian offices rarely need it translated; the 住民票 is the residence document they ask for. The Georgian spelling of your name is fixed at the first translation, following the passport's Hepburn romanization, and kept on file with the kanji and reading.

The koseki: which copy, which entries

Japanese civil status lives in the koseki, and Georgian offices asking for a birth, marriage or family certificate need the right copy. The 戸籍謄本 (全部事項証明書) shows the whole household - the 筆頭者, spouse and children, with each person's birth, parentage, marriage and other 身分事項 - and serves for family residence permits, marriage at the House of Justice and inheritance; the 戸籍抄本 (個人事項証明書) shows one person and serves as a birth certificate for that person alone; the 除籍謄本 shows a closed register and is needed for inheritance and older family history; the 改製原戸籍 shows the pre-computerization register in vertical handwritten form and is occasionally required to trace a marriage or adoption. All are issued by the city hall of the 本籍地, on paper or through convenience store kiosks with the マイナンバーカード, and apostilled by MOFA. We tell you which copy to obtain, translate the register layout entry by entry with the 本籍 and 筆頭者 preserved, convert every era date, and annotate the entries a Georgian registrar needs to find.

犯罪経歴証明書: the police certificate

Required for every Georgian temporary residence permit and for many employment contracts. The 犯罪経歴証明書 is issued only by the prefectural police headquarters of the applicant's residence (or the last residence in Japan for those abroad, through the embassy), only for a stated purpose such as a foreign visa or residence permit, and only in a sealed envelope that Japanese practice expects to remain sealed until the foreign authority opens it. The apostille from MOFA is placed on the envelope or the certificate as the police and MOFA permit. Validity is short and Georgian practice treats a certificate older than a few months with suspicion, so obtain it close to the application date. We translate the certificate - in most cases from the applicant's copy, or at the office when the Public Service Development Agency opens the envelope - and notarize the translation the same day. Georgians applying for Japanese visas rarely need a conviction certificate for immigration, but some sponsors' 行政書士 request it, and we treat it as express work.

Marriage between Japanese and Georgian citizens

To marry in Georgia, a Japanese citizen presents the 婚姻要件具備証明書 (certificate of legal capacity to marry) from the Legal Affairs Bureau or the Japanese Embassy in Tbilisi, or a 戸籍謄本 showing no current marriage, apostilled, translated and notarized here; divorced applicants' divorces appear in the koseki. After the marriage, the Georgian certificate is translated into Japanese for the 婚姻届 at the city hall or the embassy within three months, which Japanese law requires, and the marriage is entered in the koseki; the Spouse of Japanese National visa for the Georgian spouse follows. A Georgian marrying in Japan presents the Georgian birth certificate and marital status certificate, apostilled and translated into Japanese, with the 婚姻届 at the city hall. Children need Georgian birth certificates translated for the 出生届, or a 戸籍謄本 apostilled and translated for Georgian citizenship. We prepare both halves of these files as one order with identical transliteration.

Child travel consents, 住民票 and proof of address

Georgian border police require a notarized consent from the non-travelling parent when a minor leaves Georgia with one parent, and Japanese families in Georgia occasionally need consents for children traveling to Japan with grandparents. We draft bilingual consents at our notary with an interpreter and translate consents issued in Japan for use at Georgian borders and schools. The 住民票 (residence certificate) serves as proof of address and household composition for Georgian banks and the Revenue Service, and the 印鑑証明書 accompanies sealed documents; Georgian residence certificates are translated into Japanese for Japanese tax, national health insurance and pension purposes, and Georgian residents in Japan need Georgian documents translated for their 在留カード renewals and city hall registrations.

Bank statements, employment documents, and how to order

Georgian banks and the Public Service Development Agency want proof of income and, for banks, an explanation of where money comes from. We translate Japanese bank statements from MUFG, SMBC, Mizuho, Japan Post Bank and regional banks, 在職証明書 and 雇用契約書, 源泉徴収票 and 課税証明書 from the tax office, 登記事項証明書 for business owners, property documents and pension statements from the Japan Pension Service. Bank statements and private documents need no apostille. Figures in yen are translated with the currency stated exactly as in the source, and Japanese number grouping by ten thousand (万) is converted carefully. Turnaround is same day, because accounts and applications are usually waiting on these documents.

To order, send photos of every page, both sides, on LINE, WhatsApp or email; we reply in Japanese or English within 15 minutes with a fixed quote. Passports, driving licenses and bank statements need nothing further. For other documents the notary must see the apostilled original, which you bring or send to Agmashenebeli 117 near Marjanishvili Metro. Delivery is by scan the moment the notary signs, by collection, by courier in Tbilisi the same day, or by courier to any Georgian city the next day. Most personal documents are finished within the same afternoon.

No. A clear photo of the data page is enough for a notarized passport translation. The same applies to driving licenses.

The 戸籍謄本 (全部事項証明書) for family residence permits, marriage and inheritance; the 戸籍抄本 for an individual birth certificate. We tell you which to obtain for your purpose.
How do you handle the sealed 犯罪経歴証明書?+
We advise keeping it sealed with the apostille on the envelope where permitted, translate from your copy or at the office when the receiving authority opens it, and notarize the translation the same day.
How fast is a marriage document set for the House of Justice?+
The 婚姻要件具備証明書 or 戸籍謄本 is translated and notarized the same day once the apostilled version is with us.
