🇲🇾 Malay translation in Tbilisi

Malay-Georgian Translation Services in Tbilisi - For Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore's Travelers, Students, Halal Exporters and Companies

Malaysian and Bruneian travelers have discovered Georgia as a Muslim-friendly destination with mountains, wine country and halal food, Georgian exporters have discovered JAKIM halal certification as the key to a market of 300 million Malay speakers, and Malaysian and Georgian students, companies and couples have followed. Malaysia and Brunei are not Hague Apostille members, Singapore joined in 2021, and Malaysia's Muslim marriages, names and documents follow rules unlike any in Europe. We translate between Malay and Georgian to the standard Wisma Putra, JPN, the Syariah courts, SSM and Georgian offices expect, and we run the legalization chain in both directions.

Malay and Georgian: Muslim-friendly tourism, halal trade, students and three countries

Georgia's tourism industry noticed Malaysia and Brunei a few years ago, and the traffic has grown: Malaysian and Bruneian families, honeymooners and tour groups come for Kazbegi, Svaneti, Gudauri's snow, Tbilisi's old town and the novelty of a Christian country with a long Muslim history, and Georgian DMCs, hotels and restaurants have learned to provide halal food, prayer facilities and Malay-speaking guides. Georgian wine cannot enter this market, but Georgian mineral water, hazelnuts, dried fruit, honey and processed food can, provided they carry JAKIM-recognized halal certification, and Georgian exporters have begun to pursue it; Malaysian palm oil, food products, rubber goods and electronics reach Georgian importers. Malaysian students study medicine and dentistry in Georgian universities, Georgian students attend Malaysian universities and Islamic institutions, Malaysian and Georgian companies in construction, oil and gas services, IT and education trade and partner, and Malaysian-Georgian marriages - which bring Malaysia's Syariah requirements into contact with Georgia's civil registry - produce the most intricate files we handle in this pair. Singapore, where Malay is an official language alongside English, Mandarin and Tamil, and Brunei, where it is the sole official language, complete the picture.

The three countries' document systems differ. Malaysia is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so documents between Malaysia and Georgia go through consular legalization - the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Wisma Putra) and the Malaysian mission accredited to Georgia, and the Georgian MFA and the Georgian mission accredited to Malaysia - and Malaysia has no sworn translators, relying on the Institut Terjemahan dan Buku Malaysia (ITBM), the Malaysian Translators Association and court-accepted translators. Brunei is also outside the Hague system. Singapore joined in 2021, with apostilles issued by the Singapore Academy of Law, and its documents are mostly in English. Georgia has the notarized translation. Our Malay team at David Agmashenebeli Ave 117 - Georgian sworn translators trained in Malaysia, native Malay editors and a partner ITBM-certified translator in Kuala Lumpur - connects the systems.

Translation directions for Malay, and Jawi

  • Georgian → Malay: birth, marriage and death certificates, marital status certificates, conviction certificates, diplomas and transcripts, court decisions, Public Registry extracts, medical records, halal and product documentation and contracts leaving Georgia for Malaysia, Brunei or Singapore. Notarized in Tbilisi and legalized (Malaysia, Brunei) or apostilled (Singapore), prepared for ITBM certification where required.
  • Malay → Georgian: Malaysian passports and MyKad, Bruneian passports and identity cards, driving licenses, JPN sijil kelahiran, sijil perkahwinan and sijil kematian, Syariah court and state religious department marriage certificates (sijil nikah), sijil cerai, police clearance certificates, SPM, STPM and university certificates, SSM company documents, powers of attorney, employment contracts and bank statements entering the Georgian system, always notarized in Georgia. Passports and driving licenses are translated from a photo without a visit.
  • Malay ↔ English: for the many Malaysian and all Singaporean documents that are bilingual or in English, and for university admissions.

We translate from and into standard Malay (Bahasa Malaysia, and Bahasa Melayu Brunei with its conventions), read Jawi script where it appears on religious and Bruneian documents, and distinguish Malay from Indonesian, which is a separate standard our Indonesian-language colleagues handle. Malay names follow the bin/binti convention (given name, then "son of" or "daughter of" and the father's name) rather than a surname, and Malaysian Chinese and Indian names follow their own conventions, so we transliterate into Georgian from the passport and add a translator's note explaining the name structure, which Georgian offices accept; the MyKad number is reproduced exactly.

Ordering from Tbilisi, from Malaysia, Brunei or Singapore, or from anywhere in Georgia

Clients in Tbilisi send a photo on WhatsApp or Telegram for a quote within 15 minutes and bring the original to Agmashenebeli 117, near Marjanishvili Metro, where the translation is notarized while they wait. Malay translation - frequently asked questions

Can I use an apostille for Malaysia?+
No. Malaysia is not a Hague Apostille member, and neither is Brunei. A Georgian document for Malaysia is authenticated by the Georgian MFA and legalized by the Malaysian mission accredited to Georgia, and may need ITBM certification of its translation; a Malaysian document for Georgia is legalized by Wisma Putra and the Georgian mission. Singapore, by contrast, uses apostilles since 2021.
I am Malaysian Muslim and want to marry a Georgian in Georgia. What is involved?+
The Georgian civil marriage at the House of Justice needs your passport and a certificate of marital status legalized through the chain; for the marriage to be recognized in Malaysia, the Syariah requirements - including your spouse's conversion documentation if they are not Muslim - must be satisfied and the marriage registered with the state religious department. We translate every document in both directions and tell you honestly what each side requires.
Can you translate halal documentation for JAKIM recognition?+
Yes. Ingredient lists, process descriptions, supplier declarations, certificates from JAKIM-recognized bodies and audit documentation are translated into Malay and English by staff who know the Malaysian halal standard's vocabulary.
Is service available in Malay?+
Yes, in Malay and English on WhatsApp, Telegram, email and phone.
