Recognition of Russian and CIS diplomas in Georgia
A degree from a Russian, Belarusian, Kazakh or other CIS university used in Georgia for employment, for a work-based residence permit, for admission to a Georgian master's or Ph.D. program, or for a regulated profession such as medicine, pharmacy or teaching, goes through recognition at the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement. The center requires the diploma and the приложение к диплому, apostilled in the issuing country, with notarized Georgian translations. The приложение matters most: every course, its hours or credits and its grade must be translated consistently and completely, and Soviet and early post-Soviet supplements often list courses whose names need a translator's note to be understood by a Georgian committee. We keep glossaries for the most frequent Russian and Kazakh universities so terminology stays stable from one applicant to the next.
Medical, dental and pharmacy graduates from Russian-speaking universities
Doctors from Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan who want to practice in Georgia face the most document-heavy recognition. Beyond the diploma and supplement, the process typically asks for internship and residency certificates (интернатура, ординатура), specialist certificates, records of continuing education, and sometimes course syllabi for comparison of clinical hours. Each is a public document requiring apostille and notarized translation. Our medical translators, who are physicians themselves, translate the clinical course names using the terminology of Georgian medical faculties, which speeds up the committee's comparison. Nurses and pharmacists follow a similar route with college diplomas and qualification certificates.
Enrolling children: school certificates, grade reports and transfers
Russian-speaking families enrolling children in Georgian public schools, in Russian-sector schools or in international schools in Tbilisi and Batumi are asked for the child's previous school records: the личное дело extract, yearly grade reports (табель), the аттестат for older students, and vaccination records. Schools generally accept certified translations with our stamp; the Ministry of Education's procedure for recognizing prior schooling requires notarized ones. When families move back or onward to Russia, Kazakhstan or Europe, we translate Georgian school records into Russian so the child can be placed in the right year without repeating one.
Georgian diplomas for the Russian-speaking world
Georgian graduates of Tbilisi State University, Georgian Technical University, Tbilisi State Medical University, Ilia State University and others take their diplomas to Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Central Asia for employment, further study and professional licensing. The diploma and supplement are apostilled in Georgia through the education route, translated into Russian and notarized. Russian recognition (нострификация through Главэкспертцентр) and Kazakh recognition have their own submission rules, including in some cases a requirement that the translation be certified by a local notary on arrival; we prepare the translation in a form that can be re-certified there without re-translation. Medical graduates going to Russia should expect to translate clinical rotation records and internship certificates in addition to the diploma.
Student visas, residence permits for students and language certificates
Students from Russian-speaking countries enrolling in Georgian universities - increasingly in English-language medical, IT and business programs - need a notarized Georgian translation of their school certificate or previous degree for admission, and of their passport and police certificate for the student residence permit. Universities also ask for translated transcripts for credit transfer. Language certificates run both ways: a Russian-language certificate of Georgian or English proficiency may be requested by employers, and Georgian students going to Russian-speaking universities may need Russian test results or school Russian grades certified. Student status letters from Georgian universities are translated into Russian for banks, military registration offices and family benefit applications abroad.
Motivation letters, CVs, recommendations and academic writing
Beyond certificates, Russian-speaking applicants ask us to translate or edit motivation letters and CVs for Georgian and international programs, to translate recommendation letters from Russian-speaking professors into English or Georgian while preserving the signature block, and to translate research summaries and publication lists for doctoral applications. Georgian academics publishing in Russian-language journals or applying to conferences in Kazakhstan and Armenia use our Russian editors for abstracts and papers. These texts are handled by editors with academic backgrounds, with tracked changes returned so the author can see the reasoning.
Timing advice for academic files: the translation is the fast part, usually one business day for a full diploma packet. The slow parts are the apostille in the issuing country, which can take weeks if a relative has to obtain it, and the recognition center's own review. Start the apostille before you need the recognition, send us a scan immediately so the translation is ready when the paper arrives, and keep the apostilled diploma safe, because it is reusable for every future employer and university.
