How a Georgian notarized translation differs from a Russian нотариальный перевод
Russian speakers know the concept of нотариально заверенный перевод well; the mechanism in Georgia is the same, but the jurisdiction is different. A Georgian notary certifies the signature of a translator personally registered with that notary as competent in Russian. The translation is bound to a copy of the original, stamped and numbered, and from that moment it is a Georgian notarial document that every state body must accept. A translation notarized by a Russian, Kazakh or Belarusian notary is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign notarial act that itself would need an apostille and would then still need to be translated, so it is never the efficient route.
The practical consequence is that you should not pay for a notarized translation before you leave Russia or Kazakhstan. Bring the apostilled original, or a good photo of it, and have the translation done here where it will actually be used.
Residence permits, work permits and citizenship: the Russian-language file
Georgian temporary residence permits - work, study, family, investment, the special "labor" permit for freelancers and the permits sought by many relocated specialists - are handled by the Public Service Development Agency and require a notarized Georgian translation of every foreign document in the file. For Russian speakers that typically means the passport, a police clearance certificate (справка об отсутствии судимости from the МВД, apostilled), a marriage or birth certificate if family members are included, a diploma for work-based permits, and bank statements or an employment contract as proof of income. Applications for citizenship add school and university records, and property-based permits add the sale agreement and Public Registry extract, which are Georgian documents and need no translation.
We assemble the full set in one order, check that each foreign document carries its apostille, keep the transliteration of your name identical across all of them, and notarize everything in a single notary session.
Bank compliance: source of funds and KYC documents in Russian
Georgian banks apply enhanced due diligence to many Russian-speaking clients, and their compliance departments ask for translated documents that go far beyond a passport: employment contracts and payslips, tax declarations (3-НДФЛ), sale agreements for property sold abroad, dividend statements, company registration documents for business accounts, and explanations of the origin of funds. Banks usually accept a certified translation with our stamp for internal review, but require a notarized translation for anything that supports account opening or large transfers. Because these files are time-sensitive - an account may be frozen until the documents arrive - we run bank compliance translations on the express track and deliver scans by email the same day, with notarized originals to follow.
Company registration and business documents for Russian-speaking founders
Thousands of individual entrepreneurs and LLCs have been registered in Georgia by Russian, Belarusian and Kazakh citizens since 2022. The House of Justice needs a notarized Georgian translation of the founder's passport, and for corporate founders the registry extract (ЕГРЮЛ, ЕГР, БИН extract), charter and decision to establish the Georgian company, all apostilled in the country of origin. Powers of attorney issued in Russia to a Georgian representative are the most common single document, and they must be apostilled by the Russian Ministry of Justice before we translate them. We translate and notarize the whole package, and once the Georgian company exists, we translate its Public Registry extract and charter into Russian for the founder's banks and partners abroad.
Georgian documents notarized for Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus and the CIS
The reverse direction has its own requirements. Georgian civil status certificates, court decisions, Public Registry extracts and diplomas going to Russia or another Russian-speaking country must first be apostilled in Georgia, then translated into Russian and notarized here. Russian authorities, ЗАГС offices, courts and pension funds accept this bundle; a few offices additionally ask that the translation be certified by a Russian notary, which your representative can do on arrival using our text. Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Armenia accept the Georgian apostilled and notarized translation directly in most cases. Typical uses are marriage registration in Russia with a Georgian single-status certificate, Russian pension applications with Georgian employment records, inheritance cases involving property in both countries, and enrollment of children in Russian-speaking schools with Georgian birth certificates.
Certified translation without a notary: when it is enough
Not every recipient needs the notary. Universities, employers, landlords, insurers, online platforms and many foreign companies accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and the translator's signed statement, which is quicker and cheaper. Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. If you tell us who will receive the document, we recommend the right level; and if you later need a notarized version of a certified translation, we upgrade it without re-translating. For clients who need everything digital, our e-Notary option produces a PDF certified with a qualified electronic signature that Georgian registries and the Revenue Service accept online.
