Interpreting Services - At the Notary, in the Courtroom, on Site, in the Booth and on Screen
Interpreting is the service you cannot do later: the notary will not certify, the judge will not proceed and the negotiation will not advance without the right person in the room at the right moment. This page explains the Georgian rule that makes an interpreter mandatory at a notary, the difference between the modes of interpreting and when each is used, how we match interpreters to subjects, and how booking and billing work.

The notarial rule: an interpreter is mandatory, and is recorded in the deed
Georgian notarial law requires that a person who does not understand the Georgian language, or who cannot read the document, has the notarial act explained through an interpreter, and that the interpreter's participation is recorded in the act: the interpreter is identified in the deed, signs it, and confirms that the content was rendered to the party in a language they understand. A notary who certifies a foreigner's signature on a Georgian power of attorney, a sale contract, a company charter, a consent or a marriage contract without an interpreter has certified a defective act, and a party who signed without understanding can later contest it, which is why serious notaries insist and why our own notary at Agmashenebeli 117 builds the interpreter into every appointment with a foreign party. In practice we go further than the rule: we draft the act bilingually so that the party reads their own language on the page, the interpreter reads each clause aloud with the party at the signing and answers questions, and the notary certifies with the interpreter's signature alongside, in a single sitting. Notarial interpreters are available in the main languages at a day's notice and often the same day, and by video with the notary's agreement where a rare language cannot be staffed on site.
Consecutive interpreting: meetings, site visits, negotiations, appointments
Consecutive interpreting - the speaker pauses, the interpreter renders - is the mode for anything up to a dozen people: business negotiations, board meetings, due diligence sessions, factory and site visits, ministry and agency meetings, audits and inspections, training sessions, interviews, medical consultations, school meetings and the appointments at the Public Service Development Agency, the House of Justice, the Revenue Service, the police and banks that foreigners in Georgia attend. It requires no equipment, tolerates movement around a site, and gives both sides time to think, at the cost of roughly doubling the meeting's length. Our consecutive interpreters are matched to the subject - lawyers for negotiations and hearings, engineers for sites and technical meetings, physicians for consultations, HSE specialists for inspections, tourism specialists for delegations - and briefed from documents sent in advance; they are billed by the hour with a two-hour minimum in Tbilisi and by the day with travel at cost in the regions, and they can be placed on site for weeks or months for projects with continuous needs.
Simultaneous interpreting: conferences, events and the booth
Simultaneous interpreting - the interpreter renders while the speaker continues, into headsets - is the mode for conferences, forums, parliamentary and government events, investor presentations, product launches, training programs with large audiences and any event where the meeting cannot double in length. It requires a soundproof booth or portable transmitter equipment, a technician, and two interpreters per language who alternate every twenty to thirty minutes, because the cognitive load makes longer shifts unsafe for accuracy; we supply the booth, the receivers, the technician and the interpreter pairs for events in Tbilisi and the regions, in configurations from one language pair to several relay languages (Georgian, English, Russian, Turkish and others on the same event), and remote simultaneous interpreting through Zoom's interpretation feature and dedicated platforms for hybrid and online events. Simultaneous interpreters are the scarcest specialists in the profession, particularly outside English and Russian, and are booked a week or more ahead; conference organizers send the program, the speakers' materials and the terminology in advance, and we prepare glossaries for the technical sessions.
Court, administrative and police interpreting
Georgian courts appoint or admit interpreters for parties and witnesses who do not speak Georgian, and the interpreter is sworn, recorded and liable for the accuracy of what is rendered; arbitration tribunals in Georgia and abroad admit interpreters for hearings and witness examinations; and administrative proceedings - at the Public Service Development Agency, the labor inspectorate, customs, the tax authority - and police interviews and questioning involve interpreters whose renderings become part of the record. We provide court and administrative interpreters with legal training and experience of procedure, who know the register of testimony and cross-examination, who render exactly rather than helpfully, and who understand the difference between interpreting a witness and advising a client; we provide them at hearings in Tbilisi and the regions, at depositions and witness examinations for foreign proceedings conducted in Georgia, and by video for remote hearings, and we translate the documents of the same case with the same team so that terminology is consistent between the papers and the hearing.
Medical interpreting and remote interpreting
Medical interpreting - at consultations, examinations, hospital admissions, surgery consent discussions, IVF and maternity care, dental and cosmetic treatment, and the emergency situations that befall visitors - requires interpreters who know clinical vocabulary in both languages and the discretion the setting demands, and who can then translate the records that follow; we provide them at Georgian clinics and hospitals for foreign patients and residents and by video for consultations between Georgian patients and foreign hospitals before medical travel. Remote interpreting on Zoom, Teams, Google Meet and telephone serves meetings, interviews, consultations and small events where the parties are in different countries, with consecutive interpreting on ordinary calls and simultaneous interpreting through platforms that support it; it is billed by the hour without a minimum beyond the first hour, and it is how we serve rare languages that cannot be staffed on site in Georgia at short notice.
Matching, preparation, confidentiality, booking and rates
An interpreter is matched to the language pair, the mode and the subject, and briefed from whatever the client can send - the agenda, the contract, the case file, the slides, the medical history, the technical drawings - so that terminology is ready before the meeting; for recurring clients and long projects we keep an interpreter team and a glossary. Interpreters are bound by our non-disclosure agreement and by professional confidentiality, and sign client-specific NDAs for transactions and litigation. To book, send the date, place or meeting link, the languages, the subject, the expected duration and any documents on WhatsApp, Telegram or email; we confirm the interpreter and the rate within the hour. Consecutive interpreting is billed hourly with a two-hour minimum on site in Tbilisi and no minimum beyond the first hour remotely; regional and site work by the day with travel at cost, with weekly and monthly rates for placements; simultaneous work by half-day or day per interpreter, plus equipment and technician; notarial interpreting at a fixed rate per appointment when the act is drafted and certified at our own notary. The main languages are available at a day's notice and often the same day; simultaneous interpreters and rare languages should be booked a week or more ahead.
