Sodni tolmač, sodno overjen prevod and the Georgian notarized translation

In Slovenia a sodno overjen prevod is produced by a sodni tolmač appointed by the Ministry of Justice under the Act on Court Experts, Certified Appraisers and Court Interpreters, listed in the ministry's register for a specific language pair; the translator binds the translation to the original or a certified copy with a statement and a round stamp, and this alone gives the document official value. Slovenian offices generally require this form for foreign documents. The catch for Georgian documents is that very few sodni tolmači are registered for Georgian, so most Georgian documents reach Slovenian offices through an English or German intermediate translation, which adds cost and error. Georgia, for its part, has no sworn-translator register; the official form here is the translation notarized by a Georgian notary, who certifies the signature of a translator registered with that notary as competent in Slovenian.

Our solution connects the two directly: we translate the Georgian original into Slovenian here, notarize it, apostille it, and forward the text to a partner sodni tolmač in Slovenia who re-certifies it, so the Slovenian office receives a sodni prevod made from the Georgian source rather than from an English relay. A sodni prevod from Slovenia is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign notarial act; for use in Georgia the translation must be notarized here.

The enotno dovoljenje and the Slovenian embassy

Most Georgians going to Slovenia go for work under the enotno dovoljenje za prebivanje in delo, applied for by the Slovenian employer at the Upravna enota with the worker's documents, and issued through the embassy accredited to Georgia. The file requires the Georgian passport, the Georgian conviction certificate from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (apostilled, translated, valid for a limited period), proof of qualifications where the job requires them, and for family members marriage and birth certificates; the Upravna enota requires sodni tolmač translations of the foreign documents and the employer usually coordinates the Slovenian side. Seasonal work permits, the EU Blue Card for qualified positions, student permits and family reunification follow similar document lists. We assemble the translated set to match the Upravna enota's list for your category, keep your name's transliteration identical across every document, and arrange the sodni tolmač re-certification so the employer receives a complete file.

After arrival: Upravna enota, matična služba, ZZZS, courts

The Upravna enota handles residence registration, permit renewals and family reunification and requires sodni tolmač translations for new foreign documents. Matične službe registering a marriage or a foreign birth are the strictest offices and require sodni prevodi of apostilled Georgian civil status documents; the matična služba also handles the procedure for Georgians marrying in Slovenia. The ZZZS for health insurance, the ZPIZ for pensions, the Zavod za zaposlovanje and schools accept certified translations for many purposes but sodni prevodi for formal ones. Slovenian courts and notaries require sodni prevodi of apostilled documents. For all of these we prepare the Slovenian text and arrange re-certification.

Slovenian documents for Georgian authorities

Any Slovenian-language document used in Georgia must be translated into Georgian and notarized here. The most frequent are potni listi, osebne izkaznice and vozniška dovoljenja (translated from a photo, no visit needed), rojstni and poročni listi for marriage registration and family residence permits, the potrdilo o nekaznovanosti for residence permits, diplomas for work permits and recognition, izpiski iz sodnega registra, družbene pogodbe and pooblastila for company registration, pogodbe o zaposlitvi and bančni izpiski for proof of income, and potrdila from the ZZZS or ZPIZ. Slovenian public documents must carry an apostille - issued by the district court (okrožno sodišče) for court and notarial documents and for documents from the upravne enote and matične službe, and by the Ministry of Justice or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for others depending on the issuing body - before the translation is notarized. We also offer e-Notary certification with a qualified electronic signature.

Marriage, family and residence files between the two countries

Georgians marrying in Slovenia present to the matična služba the Georgian rojstni list, a marital status certificate serving as potrdilo o samskem stanu, and for previously married applicants divorce decisions, all apostilled and translated by a sodni tolmač; Slovenian matične službe want civil status documents recently issued. Slovenian citizens marrying in Georgia need a potrdilo o samskem stanu from their Upravna enota, apostilled, translated into Georgian and notarized. After a marriage in either country, the certificate is apostilled and translated for the other country's registry. Children born in Georgia to Slovenian parents need the Georgian birth certificate apostilled and translated for the Slovenian matični register and citizenship; children born in Slovenia to Georgian parents need the Slovenian rojstni list apostilled and translated for the Georgian embassy and the Public Service Development Agency. We prepare these as matched sets with identical transliteration; Slovenian č, š, ž are transliterated by consistent rules.

Certified translation without notarization, and when it is enough

Not every recipient needs the notary or the sodni tolmač. Slovenian universities for admission, employers for initial screening, landlords, insurers and online portals often accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and translator statement, which is quicker and cheaper. The Upravna enota, matične službe, Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized and re-certified one later without re-translating. For clients who submit everything online we issue digitally signed PDFs, and we print, stamp and courier the same file when paper is required.

Slovenian translation - frequently asked questions

Can I use a sodni prevod from Slovenia for a Georgian residence permit?+
Not on its own. Georgian authorities require notarization by a Georgian notary. We can have the Slovenian sworn translation reviewed and signed by our registered translator and notarized locally, which is cheaper than re-translating.
Why not just have a sodni tolmač in Slovenia translate my Georgian documents?+
Very few are registered for Georgian, so the document usually goes through English first, with delays and errors. We translate from Georgian directly and the sodni tolmač re-certifies our text.
How long does a potrdilo o nekaznovanosti translation take?+
Once the apostilled potrdilo is with us, 1-2 hours for the notarized Georgian translation.
Does my Slovenian employer handle the sodni tolmač step?+
Often the employer coordinates it; we can deliver directly to the employer or to our partner sodni tolmač, whichever the employer prefers.
