Spain: homologación, equivalencia and the Ministerio de Universidades
A Georgian degree used in Spain for a regulated profession - medicine, nursing, pharmacy, architecture, engineering, law, teaching - requires homologación by the Ministerio de Universidades, which compares the Georgian program to the Spanish título and may impose complementary exams; for non-regulated purposes equivalencia to a Spanish level and field is enough. Both require the apostilled diploma and expediente académico with translations by a traductor jurado, by a Spanish consulate, or legalized foreign translations, plus the programas de las asignaturas (syllabi) for homologación. Georgian medical graduates are the largest group, and their packets run to dozens of pages. Our medical translators, who are physicians, translate clinical subjects using the terminology of Spanish medical faculties, and we keep glossaries for Tbilisi State Medical University and other Georgian institutions so packets are consistent from one applicant to the next.
Spanish university admission, UNED credential and school access
Georgian applicants to Spanish bachelor's programs go through the UNED credential (acreditación UNEDasiss), which assesses the Georgian school leaving certificate and national exam results and issues the credential universities use; the process requires certified translations of the school certificate and exam results, and many universities ask for the apostilled bundle at enrollment. Master's and doctoral applicants apply directly with the diploma and expediente, which universities accept as certified translations for admission and as apostilled and notarized bundles for enrollment and the estancia por estudios at Extranjería. Language certificates - DELE and SIELE results translated into Georgian, and Georgian or English proficiency certificates translated into Spanish - are handled the same day. We translate the full Georgian packet in one business day.
Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and the rest of Latin America
Each country recognizes foreign degrees differently. Mexico's SEP handles revalidación de estudios for school and university levels, requiring apostilled documents with Spanish translation by a perito or an apostilled foreign translation. Argentina's Ministerio de Educación handles convalidación for regulated professions and universities handle reválida for others, requiring translations by a traductor público legalized by the Colegio. Colombia's Ministerio de Educación handles convalidación de títulos with apostilled documents and translations by a traductor oficial. Chile's Universidad de Chile handles revalidación and reconocimiento for most degrees. Peru's SUNEDU handles reconocimiento. We prepare the Georgian packet - diploma, expediente, programas, and for medical graduates internship and specialty records - in the form each authority lists, and arrange the local certification of the translation where required.
Spanish-language degrees for recognition and employment in Georgia
A Spanish or Latin American degree used in Georgia - for a work permit, for a teaching, medical or engineering position, for admission to a Georgian master's or doctoral program, or for recognition at the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement - must be apostilled in its country of origin and translated into Georgian and notarized in Tbilisi. We translate the título, the certificación académica personal or expediente, the Suplemento Europeo al Título and, when recognition is sought, the programas. Spanish medical graduates should expect the recognition body to ask for the MIR specialty title and colegiación records; Latin American graduates for the cédula profesional (Mexico) or matrícula (Argentina). Graduates of the Spanish grado and máster system or of Latin American licenciatura programs sometimes need a translator's note explaining the structure to a Georgian committee, which we provide.
Medical students from Latin America at Georgian universities
A distinct and growing group: students from Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and elsewhere enrolled in English-language medical, dental and pharmacy programs at Georgian universities. For admission and the student residence permit they need notarized Georgian translations of their school certificate or previous degree, passport and conviction certificate, and for credit transfer their transcripts. On graduation they need the Georgian diploma and supplement apostilled and translated into Spanish for revalidación at home, and their clinical rotation records translated for licensing exams. We handle the whole cycle from admission to graduation, and we keep each student's transliteration and glossary on file so the documents match across years.
Cartas de motivación, CVs, recommendations, doctoral files and timing
Georgian applicants to Spanish-language programs ask us to translate or, more often, to edit cartas de motivación so they read naturally to an admissions committee, to translate cartas de recomendación from Georgian professors while preserving the signature block, and to adapt CVs to Spanish or Latin American conventions. Doctoral candidates and researchers need thesis abstracts, publication lists and conference certificates translated, and articles proofread before submission to Spanish-language journals, which are numerous in medicine, law and the humanities. Native Spanish editors with academic backgrounds handle these texts.
On timing: homologación in Spain takes many months, UNED credential deadlines fall in spring and summer, Latin American convalidación procedures take several months, and the apostille on a Georgian diploma can take up to five business days. Start the apostille early, since the apostilled diploma is reusable, and ask for a digital certified translation first so you can upload it while the paper originals are in process.
