🇨🇳 Chinese translation in Tbilisi
Chinese-Georgian Translation Services in Tbilisi - For China's Investors, Contractors, Exporters and Travelers
China is one of Georgia's largest trading partners, Chinese companies build Georgia's roads, tunnels and ports and own Hualing's Tbilisi Sea complex, Georgian wine is a fixture in Chinese import statistics, and visa-free travel since 2024 has brought Chinese tourists to the Caucasus in growing numbers. China's documents run through a notarial certificate system unlike any in Europe, and China joined the Hague Apostille Convention only in November 2023. We translate between Chinese and Georgian to the standard Chinese notaries, the Georgian Public Registry and the Ministry of Education expect.

Chinese and Georgian: infrastructure, trade, wine and tourism
China's presence in Georgia is large and visible. Chinese state contractors built and are building highway sections, tunnels and bridges on the East-West Highway, and Chinese companies have interests in the Anaklia port project, in mining, in the Tbilisi Sea Hualing complex and its free industrial zone in Kutaisi, in hotels and in trade; the 2017 free trade agreement made Georgia the first country in the region with an FTA with China, and Georgian wine, mineral water, hazelnuts, ferroalloys and copper go to China while Chinese machinery, electronics, vehicles and consumer goods come the other way. Since 2024 Chinese citizens travel to Georgia visa-free and Georgians benefit from Chinese visa facilitation, Chinese tourism to Georgia has grown, and Georgian students go to Chinese universities on Chinese government and Confucius Institute scholarships while Chinese students study medicine and Georgian at Tbilisi universities. Each connection produces documents in Chinese that Georgian authorities need in Georgian, and documents in Georgian that Chinese authorities need in Chinese.
China's document system is distinctive. Public documents are rarely used abroad directly; instead a notary office (公证处) issues a notarial certificate (公证书) attesting the underlying document, often with a Chinese-made translation bound in, and since November 2023 that notarial certificate is apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or an authorized provincial Foreign Affairs Office rather than legalized at a consulate. Hong Kong and Macau have their own apostille authorities and Taiwan is outside the Hague system altogether. Georgia has the notarized translation. Our Chinese team at David Agmashenebeli Ave 117 - Georgian sworn translators trained in China, native Chinese editors and partners in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou - connects the systems.
Translation directions and scripts for Chinese
- Georgian → Chinese: birth, marriage and death certificates, conviction certificates, diplomas and transcripts, Georgian court decisions, Public Registry extracts, medical records and contracts leaving Georgia for mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan. Notarized in Tbilisi and apostilled or legalized as the destination requires.
- Chinese → Georgian: passports (护照) and driving licenses (驾驶证), notarial certificates of birth, marriage, no criminal record (无犯罪记录公证), kinship, household registration (户口本), diplomas and degree certificates (毕业证, 学位证), business licenses (营业执照), articles of association, powers of attorney, employment contracts and bank statements entering the Georgian system, always notarized in Georgia. Passports and driving licenses are translated from a photo without a visit.
- Chinese ↔ English: direct translation for Chinese companies working in English and for university admissions.
We translate into Simplified Chinese (简体) for mainland China and Singapore and into Traditional Chinese (繁體) for Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, with distinct editors for each, since vocabulary and official terminology differ beyond the characters themselves. Chinese names are transliterated into Georgian from the pinyin in the passport by consistent rules, with the surname-first order preserved and noted, and the Chinese characters reproduced alongside where a Georgian office permits, since pinyin alone can be ambiguous.
