Credential evaluation: WES, UK ENIC, ICAS, IQAS, NARIC equivalents

Credential evaluators have their own submission rules. World Education Services (WES) for the US and Canada requires the translation to accompany the original documents sent by the university or, for some countries, by the applicant, and rejects translations that omit any section of the transcript. UK ENIC issues Statements of Comparability from certified translations of the diploma and supplement. ICAS and IQAS in Canada and the Australian Department of Education's assessment services follow similar rules with their own forms. We prepare the packet exactly as each evaluator lists it, including translations of the university's official seal text and any stamps on the reverse side, which are the details most often missed.

School certificates, student status letters and language certificates

Families relocating between Georgia and English-speaking countries need school leaving certificates (atestati), yearly grade reports and enrollment letters translated so a child can join the right year. Georgian schools issue these in a fixed format that we translate with the grading explained. Students applying for visas need a student status letter from their Georgian university in English, or an English one from abroad translated into Georgian for a Georgian residence permit as a student. A degree from a US, UK, Canadian, Australian or Irish university used in Georgia - for a work permit, for a teaching or medical position, for admission to a Georgian master's or doctoral program, or for the diploma recognition procedure at the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement - must be apostilled in its country of origin and then translated into Georgian and notarized in Tbilisi. Medical and dental graduates should note that the recognition body may also request translated proof of clinical hours; we handle those letters alongside the main documents.

Not everything academic is a certificate. Georgian applicants to English-language programs ask us to translate or, more often, to edit motivation letters and personal statements so they read naturally to an admissions committee, and to translate letters of recommendation written by Georgian professors while preserving the professor's signature block for authenticity. CVs and resumes are adapted to the conventions of the target country, since a US resume, a UK CV and an academic CV are different documents. Application deadlines, apostille timing and how to plan an academic packet

Academic documents have the tightest calendars of anything we translate. UCAS deadlines in the UK, Common App and graduate school deadlines in the US, Canadian fall intake cut-offs and Australian semester dates all fall within a few weeks of each other, and evaluators such as WES add several weeks of their own processing on top. The translation is the fast part, usually one business day for a full packet. The slow parts are obtaining the apostille on the diploma, which can take up to five business days because education documents pass through their own verification route, and getting your university to issue an official transcript or a sealed envelope.

Our advice is to start the apostille before you have even chosen a program, since the apostilled diploma is reusable for every application, and to ask us for a digital certified translation first so you can upload it to application portals while the paper originals are still in process. Georgian universities are used to our requests for sealed transcripts, and we can collect the documents from the registrar on your behalf if you are already abroad.
