English interpreter for notary transactions in Tbilisi
Under Georgian notarial law, a person who does not speak Georgian may only sign a notarial act with an interpreter present, and the interpreter's details are recorded in the deed. This applies to powers of attorney, apartment purchases, company founding documents, marriage contracts, wills and loan agreements. Because our office at Agmashenebeli 117 works alongside a licensed notary, the interpreter is simply part of the appointment: you read the bilingual draft in advance, the interpreter walks you through every clause at the signing, and the notary certifies the act in one sitting.
Most English-speaking clients use this for property purchases in Tbilisi and Batumi, for granting a power of attorney to a Georgian lawyer or accountant, and for registering an LLC at the House of Justice. We also accompany clients to the Public Service Hall, banks, the Revenue Service and the Public Registry, where staff may speak some English but official forms are in Georgian.
Court, police, medical and official interpreting
Georgian courts provide interpreters for criminal proceedings, but in civil and commercial cases - divorce, custody, contract disputes, labor claims - parties usually bring their own. Our court interpreters are experienced with procedural vocabulary in both legal systems and can also translate the case file so that what you hear in the hearing matches what you read beforehand. For police statements, notary depositions and administrative hearings we provide consecutive interpreting on short notice.
Medical interpreting is a separate specialty. Expats using Georgian clinics for diagnostics, surgery, IVF or dental work ask for an interpreter at consultations and for translation of the resulting epicrisis and lab results; see the medical and technical translation page for the document side.
Business meetings, conferences and simultaneous interpreting
For negotiations, board meetings, due diligence sessions and investor visits we provide consecutive interpreters who prepare from your agenda and terminology in advance. For conferences, trainings and government events we provide simultaneous interpreting with booth and receiver equipment, or remote simultaneous interpreting through Zoom's interpretation channels and Microsoft Teams. English is the most common conference language in Tbilisi, and English-Russian-Georgian three-way events are routine for us.
Remote interpreting has become the default for many clients abroad: a lawyer in New York joining a Georgian notary appointment by video link, or a company in Manchester interviewing Georgian candidates. We set up the call, brief the interpreter and, if the meeting produces a document, translate it afterwards.
English localization of Georgian websites, apps and marketing
Translation makes a text understandable; localization makes it persuasive. Georgian companies entering English-speaking markets - wine exporters, tourism operators, software startups, real estate developers, clinics offering medical tourism - need website copy, app strings, brochures and social media content that native speakers actually respond to. Our workflow pairs a Georgian translator with a native English copy editor, applies your glossary and brand voice, and delivers files in the format your developers or designers use: HTML, JSON, XLIFF, InDesign, Figma or plain Google Docs.
SEO-aware localization is part of the service. We research the English keywords your audience searches for, adapt titles and meta descriptions, and keep the URL and heading structure search engines expect. A wine cellar page that ranks for "Georgian wine tasting Tbilisi" is worth more than a technically perfect translation nobody finds.
Proofreading English written by non-native speakers
Many Georgian organizations already write in English - grant applications, academic articles, investor decks, legal opinions, tender bids. What they need is not translation but a native editor who removes the traces of Georgian sentence structure, fixes articles and prepositions, and tightens the argument. We proofread at three levels: light (grammar and typos), standard (clarity and flow) and substantive (structure and tone), and we return tracked changes so you can see and learn from every edit. Academic authors submitting to English-language journals and NGOs applying to EU and US donors are our most frequent proofreading clients.
How to book an English interpreter and what it costs
Interpreting is priced by the hour for consecutive work, with a two-hour minimum for on-site assignments in Tbilisi, and by the half-day or day for simultaneous work, where two interpreters alternate every twenty to thirty minutes as professional standards require. Travel outside Tbilisi - to Batumi, Kutaisi, Rustavi or a project site - is billed at cost. Remote interpreting over Zoom or Teams has no minimum beyond the first hour, which makes it the economical choice for a short notary appointment joined from abroad.
To book, send us the date, time, location or meeting link, the subject and any documents the interpreter should read beforehand: a draft contract, a court file, a conference agenda or a slide deck. Preparation is the difference between an interpreter who keeps up and one who leads the conversation, so we brief every assignment. Same-day bookings are usually possible during office hours; conferences and multi-day assignments should be reserved a week ahead so we can allocate the right specialists and equipment.
