DOATAP: recognition of Georgian degrees in Greece
A Georgian university degree used in Greece for public sector employment, for regulated professions or for postgraduate study goes through DOATAP (the Hellenic NARIC), which issues a πράξη αναγνώρισης of academic equivalence. Reforms since 2022 have simplified recognition for degrees from institutions on DOATAP's national register of recognized foreign universities, and Georgian public universities are increasingly listed; degrees from listed institutions may be recognized on the basis of the diploma and transcript alone, while others require the full syllabus comparison. The application, now online, requires the apostilled diploma and αναλυτική βαθμολογία, an official Greek translation, proof of the program's length and mode of study, and for some fields the περιεχόμενο σπουδών. We translate the Georgian packet in the format DOATAP expects, using the terminology Greek faculties use for the same subjects, and arrange Register certification for the submission.
Regulated professions: doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers
Beyond DOATAP, regulated professions require a license from the competent body. Doctors and dentists from Georgian medical universities apply to the regional authorities for an άδεια ασκήσεως επαγγέλματος after DOATAP recognition and, for non-EU degrees, examinations; nurses go through the ΕΝΕ and the Ministry of Health; pharmacists through the Πανελλήνιος Φαρμακευτικός Σύλλογος; engineers through the ΤΕΕ, which examines foreign engineering degrees itself; teachers through the Ministry of Education. Each requires translated proof of clinical or professional practice, specialization certificates and good standing in addition to the diploma. Georgian nurses and caregivers in Greece are a large group seeking formal licensing, and our medical translators, who are physicians, translate clinical subjects using the terminology of Greek medical and nursing schools.
Greek and Cypriot university admission
Georgian applicants to Greek universities apply through the Ministry of Education's procedure for αλλοδαποί-αλλογενείς candidates for undergraduate programs, or directly to universities for the growing number of English-language master's programs; Cypriot universities - the University of Cyprus, Cyprus University of Technology and the private universities - admit directly. Applications require certified translations of the school leaving certificate with national exam results, or the diploma and αναλυτική βαθμολογία for graduate programs, and language certificates (Greek at the required level, or IELTS and TOEFL for English-language programs); Greek undergraduate admission for foreign candidates additionally requires a βεβαίωση from the Georgian Ministry of Education confirming the certificate gives university access in Georgia, which we translate. Universities accept certified translations with our stamp for the application and require the apostilled bundle with official translation at enrollment.
Greek and Cypriot degrees for recognition and employment in Georgia
A Greek or Cypriot degree used in Georgia - for a work permit, for a teaching, medical or engineering position, for admission to a Georgian master's or doctoral program, or for recognition at the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement - must be apostilled by the Decentralized Administration or the Cypriot Ministry of Justice and translated into Georgian and notarized in Tbilisi. We translate the πτυχίο, the αναλυτική βαθμολογία, the παράρτημα διπλώματος and, when recognition is sought, course descriptions. Greek medical graduates should expect the recognition body to ask for the τίτλος ειδικότητας and ιατρικός σύλλογος registration; engineers for ΤΕΕ membership. Georgians who studied in Greece and return, and the Greek-educated children of the diaspora, are the largest group here.
School certificates, the diaspora's children and language certificates
Children of Georgian families in Greece who move back to Georgia bring Greek school records - απολυτήρια, ενδεικτικά, βεβαιώσεις φοίτησης - that Georgian schools and the Ministry of Education need translated to place the child in the right grade, and children moving from Georgia to Greece need Georgian records translated for the Greek school and the Διεύθυνση Εκπαίδευσης. Greek-language certificates - the Πιστοποιητικό Ελληνομάθειας from the Centre for the Greek Language, required for citizenship and for some jobs - are translated into Georgian for Georgian employers, and Georgian or English proficiency certificates into Greek for Greek universities. Students need βεβαιώσεις σπουδών and student status letters in the other language for permits, banks and family benefits.
Motivation letters, recommendations, CVs and timing
Georgian applicants to Greek and Cypriot programs ask us to translate or edit motivation letters and CVs to Greek or Europass conventions, and to translate συστατικές επιστολές while preserving the signature block; doctoral candidates need thesis abstracts and publication lists translated, and researchers collaborating with Greek universities use our editors for articles. Native Greek editors with academic backgrounds handle these texts.
On timing: DOATAP recognition takes months even under the reformed procedure, the foreign candidates' admission procedure has a July deadline, Cypriot universities admit in spring and autumn, Register certification takes a few days, and the apostille on a Georgian diploma can take up to five business days. Start the apostille early, since the apostilled diploma is reusable, and ask for a digital certified translation first so you can upload it while the paper originals are in process.
