Arabic in Georgia: students, investors, tourists and a growing community
Arabic speakers are one of the fastest-growing groups in Georgia. Egyptian, Iraqi, Jordanian, Syrian, Yemeni, Palestinian and Sudanese students fill English-language medical, dental and pharmacy programs at Georgian universities; Gulf nationals from Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman are among the largest tourist groups and increasingly buy apartments and hotels in Batumi and Tbilisi; Lebanese, Jordanian and Egyptian entrepreneurs run restaurants, clinics and trading companies; and Arab families settle in Georgia for its residence permits and its proximity. Each of these produces documents in Arabic - passports, birth certificates, police clearances, diplomas, commercial registrations, powers of attorney - that Georgian authorities need in Georgian, and documents in Georgian that Arab authorities need in Arabic.
What makes Arabic uniquely complex is not the language but the map. Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Morocco and Tunisia have joined the Hague Apostille Convention; the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Algeria, Libya and the rest have not, and their documents pass through ministries and embassies instead. Arabic names have several accepted Latin spellings and must be transliterated into Georgian consistently; dates may be Hijri or Gregorian; and document formats differ from Cairo to Riyadh to Casablanca. Our Arabic team consists of native speakers from several Arab countries, registered with the notary at David Agmashenebeli Ave 117, and we maintain legalization routes for each country.
Translation directions for Arabic
- Arabic → Georgian: passports and national ID cards, driving licenses, birth, marriage and divorce certificates, police clearance certificates (shahadat husn sira wa suluk, fish wa tashbih), diplomas and transcripts, commercial registrations (sijil tijari) and articles of association, powers of attorney (wakala), employment contracts, bank statements and medical records entering the Georgian system, always notarized in Georgia. Passports and driving licenses are translated from a photo without a visit.
- Georgian → Arabic: Georgian civil status certificates, diplomas, court rulings, Public Registry extracts, medical records and contracts for Arab governments, universities, courts, hospitals and families, notarized and apostilled or consular-legalized depending on the country.
- Arabic ↔ English, Arabic ↔ Russian and Arabic ↔ Turkish: direct translation for Gulf companies with English-language operations, for university admissions, for Russian-speaking counterparts in Georgia and for Turkish-Arab business.
We translate into Modern Standard Arabic for official documents, and adapt localization content to Gulf, Egyptian or Levantine usage as the audience requires.
Apostille or legalization: the map of the Arab world
| Country | System | What it means for your documents |
|---|---|---|
| Saudi Arabia (since 2022), Oman, Bahrain, Morocco, Tunisia | Hague apostille | One stamp from the issuing country's authority; no embassy step. Georgian documents apostilled in Tbilisi and translated into Arabic. |
| UAE, Qatar, Kuwait | Consular legalization | Georgian MFA certification, then legalization by the country's embassy accredited to Georgia; Arab documents attested by the home MOFA and the Georgian mission. |
| Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine | Consular legalization | Same two-step chain; Egyptian and Jordanian documents also need prior attestation by their own ministries (Education, Justice, Health). |
| Syria, Yemen, Libya, Sudan, Algeria, Mauritania | Consular legalization | Chain available but slow; we advise on current practicable routes case by case. |
Full detail on the apostille and legalization page. Passports, driving licenses and private documents are exempt from all of this and are translated directly in 1-2 hours.

How Arabic-speaking clients order, in Tbilisi and from abroad
Clients in Tbilisi send a photo on WhatsApp and receive a quote within 15 minutes, in Arabic. For passports and driving licenses that is the end of the visit-free process: pay by card or transfer, and the courier brings the notarized translation. For other documents the notary must see the original, so you come to Agmashenebeli 117 once, when the translation is already prepared. Students in Batumi and Kutaisi, and clients elsewhere in Georgia, send originals by courier and receive the finished documents back while our regional offices are being renovated. Clients in Riyadh, Dubai, Cairo, Amman or Casablanca who need a Georgian document - a diploma, a marriage certificate, a property extract, a court decision - arrange for us to collect it, and we translate, notarize, apostille or legalize and ship by DHL or Aramex with tracking, which reaches the Gulf in two to three days.
