Korean 공증 translation versus the Georgian notarized translation

Korea has no register of sworn translators. A translation for a Korean authority is either notarized (번역공증) by a Korean notary who certifies the translator's declaration of accuracy, or accompanied by the translator's signed certification with credentials, and Korean immigration, district offices and courts specify which they want for each procedure - formal ones such as marriage registration, visa applications with family documents and court filings generally want 번역공증. Georgia has the notarized translation certified by a Georgian notary attesting a registered translator's signature. Neither is accepted in the other country directly: a Korean 번역공증 is a foreign notarial act in Georgia, and a Georgian notarized translation is a foreign document in Korea. The efficient route is to have each translation made where it will be used, from the apostilled original: Korean documents translated and notarized in Tbilisi for Georgian offices, and Georgian documents translated into Korean here and, where the Korean office requires 번역공증, notarized in Korea by our partner using our text, which avoids the errors Korean translators unfamiliar with Georgian documents make.

The family relation registry: 가족관계증명서, 기본증명서, 혼인관계증명서

Korea abolished the household register (호적) in 2008 and replaced it with the family relation registry, which issues five separate certificates on demand: the 가족관계증명서 (family relation certificate, showing parents, spouse and children), the 기본증명서 (basic certificate, showing birth, name changes and nationality), the 혼인관계증명서 (marriage relation certificate, showing marriages and divorces), the 입양관계증명서 and the 친양자입양관계증명서 for adoption. Each comes in a general version (일반) and a detailed version (상세) with full history, and Georgian offices asking for a "birth certificate" or "marriage certificate" need the right one: the 기본증명서 (상세) for birth, the 혼인관계증명서 for marriage or divorce, the 가족관계증명서 for parentage and family residence permits. We tell Korean clients which certificate to obtain and in which version, translate the registry format field by field so a Georgian registrar can follow it, and convert dates and the 주민등록번호 identifier exactly.

Names: romanization and the Georgian spelling

Korean names are romanized inconsistently: the same surname appears as Lee, Rhee, Yi or I, and given names are hyphenated, joined or separated depending on the document and the decade. Korean passports carry one romanization, older documents and English-language diplomas may carry another, and Georgian registrars compare spellings strictly. We fix the Georgian spelling of your full name at the first translation, following the passport romanization and Georgian phonetic rules, record it on file together with the Hangul original, and use it on every subsequent document, adding a translator's note wherever a source document uses a different romanization. Korean name order - surname first - is annotated so Georgian forms are filled correctly.

Georgian documents for Korean visas: E-7, D-2, F-6 and the rest

Georgians applying at the Korean Embassy in Tbilisi or through Korean immigration for the E-7 skilled worker visa, the D-2 student visa, the D-4 language training visa, the F-6 marriage visa, the E-8 seasonal worker visa under municipal agreements, or the Working Holiday program present Georgian documents apostilled and translated into Korean or English: the conviction certificate, diplomas and transcripts, marriage and birth certificates for family visas, bank statements and employment letters, and for F-6 the extensive documentation Korean immigration requires on the relationship and the Korean spouse's income and housing. Korean immigration accepts translations with the translator's certification for most visa documents and requires 번역공증 for some family documents. We prepare the set to the embassy's checklist, translate into Korean where required and English where accepted, and arrange Korean notarization through a partner in Seoul where the checklist specifies it.

Korean documents for Georgian residence permits, business and marriage

Korean citizens applying for Georgian residence permits - work, study, family, investment tied to property - need a notarized Georgian translation of the passport, the 범죄경력회보서 (criminal record certificate, apostilled), the relevant family relation certificates for accompanying family (apostilled), a diploma for work-based permits, and bank statements or an employment contract. Korean founders registering Georgian LLCs need the passport and, for corporate founders, the 법인등기부등본 (corporate registry extract), 정관 (articles) and board resolution, apostilled and translated. Marriage between Korean and Georgian citizens at the House of Justice requires the Korean 혼인관계증명서 (상세) showing no current marriage, apostilled and translated, and after the marriage the Georgian certificate is apostilled and translated into Korean for the 주민센터 or the embassy, where the marriage must be reported within three months. We prepare these sets with consistent transliteration and notarize everything in one session.

Certified translation without a notary, and e-Notary

Not every recipient needs the notary. Universities for initial applications, employers, landlords, insurers and online platforms often accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and the translator's signed statement, which is quicker and cheaper. Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not, and Korean immigration wants notarization for family documents. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized one later without re-translating, and our e-Notary option produces a PDF with a qualified electronic signature that Georgian registries accept online, which suits Korean clients who submit everything digitally.

Korean translation - frequently asked questions

Which Korean certificate is my "birth certificate" for Georgian purposes?+
The 기본증명서 in the detailed (상세) version, apostilled. For parentage and family residence permits the 가족관계증명서 is also needed; for marriage or divorce the 혼인관계증명서. We tell you exactly which to obtain.
My passport says Lee and my diploma says Yi. Can you fix it?+
Yes. We establish one Georgian spelling based on your passport, record it, and issue every translation to match, with a note reconciling the other romanization.
Does Korean immigration require a notarized translation of my Georgian documents?+
For most visa documents a translator's certification is enough; for family documents in F-6 and some other categories 번역공증 is required, which we arrange through a partner notary in Seoul using our text.
How long does a residence permit document set take?+
A standard set of four to six documents is translated and notarized the same day once the apostilled originals or e-apostille PDFs are with us.
