Court translators and the Georgian notarized translation
In North Macedonia, translations for official use are made by судски преведувачи (court translators), appointed by the Ministry of Justice after examination and entered in its register for specific language pairs; a court translator's stamped translation is accepted by courts, the civil registry, the Ministry of Interior, the Central Registry, notaries and universities throughout the country. No court translator has ever been appointed for Georgian, and Georgian documents have traditionally gone through English, Serbian or Bulgarian relay translations. Macedonian law also recognizes foreign public documents with an apostille, including notarial acts, and in practice the Ministry of Interior, most civil registry offices, universities for admission and employers accept a Georgian notarized and apostilled translation; courts, the Central Registry and some registrars insist on the court translator's stamp. Georgia has the translation notarized by a Georgian notary, who certifies the signature of a translator registered as competent in Macedonian.
We translate the Georgian original into Macedonian here, notarize it, apostille the original and, where a Macedonian office insists on a court translator, forward the text to a partner court translator for English in Skopje, who certifies it against the apostilled Georgian original with an English bridge, typically within a few days. A Macedonian court translator's translation is, from Georgia's point of view, a foreign document; for use in Georgia the translation must be notarized here.
The Ministry of Interior: residence in North Macedonia
The Ministry of Interior's department for foreigners decides temporary residence for Georgians as employees (after the Employment Agency issues a work permit), as students, as spouses and family members of Macedonian citizens and residents, as founders and owners of Macedonian companies and as property owners, and decides permanent residence after five years; applications are lodged at the ministry's regional offices with the Georgian passport, an apostilled Georgian conviction certificate, proof of means and accommodation, health insurance, and by category the work permit and contract, the university enrollment, the apostilled marriage and birth certificates, or the Central Registry extract and proof of investment, all with translations by a court translator or, in practice, notarized and apostilled translations from abroad. We assemble the translated set to match the ministry's list for your category, with the transliteration of your name identical across every document and the conviction certificate treated as express work because of its validity window.
Матични служби, marriage and citizenship
Civil registration in North Macedonia is handled by the Управа за водење на матичните книги (Civil Registry Office) under the Ministry of Justice, with local offices in every municipality, which keep the books of births, marriages, deaths and citizens and issue изводи and уверенија from them, in Cyrillic and, in bilingual municipalities, with Albanian; the уверение за државјанство (citizenship certificate) is asked for alongside the birth certificate in most procedures. A Georgian marrying in North Macedonia presents the birth certificate, a certificate of marital status and, if applicable, divorce decisions, apostilled and translated, and the матичар registers the marriage; a Macedonian citizen marrying in Georgia presents an извод од матичната книга на родените and a уверение за слободна брачна состојба, apostilled by a basic court, translated into Georgian and notarized. Registration of a marriage or birth that took place in Georgia in the Macedonian books, and citizenship applications by marriage or descent, use the same documents. We prepare these sets and know the forms each office expects.
Courts, notaries, the Central Registry and nostrification
Macedonian courts - the основни судови, апелациони судови and the Supreme Court - require court translator translations of foreign documents in proceedings, as do the notaries who draft founding acts and certify signatures and the Central Registry (Централен регистар), which registers companies electronically and requires certified translations of foreign founders' documents. The Ministry of Education and Science requires court translator translations of apostilled diplomas for nostrification, and universities for admission. For all of these we prepare the Macedonian text and arrange re-certification through Skopje, delivering the apostilled original, our notarized translation and the court translator's certification as one bundle.
Macedonian documents for Georgian authorities
Any Macedonian-language document used in Georgia must be translated into Georgian and notarized here. The most frequent are пасоши, лични карти and возачки дозволи (translated from a photo, no visit needed), изводи од матичните книги and уверенија за државјанство for marriage registration and family residence permits, the уверение за неказнуваност from the basic court or the Ministry of Interior for residence permits, дипломи and уверенија за положени испити for work permits and recognition, тековна состојба extracts from the Central Registry and основачки акти for company registration, полномошна, договори за вработување and bank statements for proof of income, and уверенија from the Public Revenue Office, the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund and the Employment Agency. Macedonian public documents must carry the apostille of the competent basic court or the Ministry of Justice before the translation is notarized. We also offer e-Notary certification with a qualified electronic signature.
Certified translation without notarization, and when it is enough
Not every recipient needs the notary or the court translator. Universities for initial admission, employers, landlords, insurers, sports federations for preliminary registration and online portals accept a certified translation with our agency stamp and translator statement, which is quicker and cheaper. The Ministry of Interior, civil registry offices, courts, the Central Registry, Georgian courts, registries, the Public Service Hall and banks do not. Tell us who will receive the document and we recommend the right level; a certified translation can be upgraded to a notarized and re-certified one later without re-translating. For clients who submit documents by email or through university portals we issue digitally signed PDFs, and we print, stamp and courier the same file when paper is required.
