Recognition of Georgian diplomas by the Mongolian Ministry of Education

A Georgian degree used in Mongolia for employment, for state service, for a regulated profession or for further study is recognized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Mongolia (through its qualifications evaluation function), which examines the Georgian university's accreditation, the program's level, duration and content and the mode of study, and issues a recognition decision that state employers and licensing bodies require; the application requires the apostilled diploma and Diploma Supplement or transcript with a notarized translation into Mongolian (English is accepted for the supplement by some officers), the applicant's school certificate and passport, and for some cases the curriculum. Medical graduates then go through the Ministry of Health's licensing examination for foreign-trained doctors. Mongolian graduates of Georgian medical, business and language programs are a small but regular group, and we translate the Georgian packet in the ministry's format, with hours and credits shown as its assessors expect and clinical subjects rendered by physician translators where relevant.

Mongolian students in Georgia: admission, transfer and recognition of school certificates

For admission, the Mongolian certificate of complete secondary education (бүрэн дунд боловсролын гэрчилгээ) with its transcript is certified by the Ministry of Education, apostilled by the MFA, translated into Georgian and notarized here, and submitted to the university and, through it, to the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement for recognition of the school certificate, which is a condition of enrollment and checks the years of schooling (Mongolia's twelve-year system since 2008 maps directly onto Georgia's); the general entrance examination (ЭЕШ) results are translated where the university asks. Transfer students from the National University of Mongolia, the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, the University of Science and Technology and others bring transcripts and academic certificates for credit recognition, and graduates seeking a Georgian master's or doctoral program or a Georgian work permit bring their Mongolian diploma (бакалавр, магистр, доктор). We translate all of these from Cyrillic, checking the traditional script where present, with the Mongolian grading scale (letter grades and GPA on a 4.0 scale) explained in a note.

Coaching qualifications and sports education

Mongolian coaches hired by Georgian judo, wrestling and sambo clubs and by the Georgian federations bring coaching qualifications that Georgian clubs and the Public Service Development Agency need translated for work permits and federation registration: diplomas from the Mongolian National Institute of Physical Education, coaching licenses and category certificates issued by the Mongolian federations and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, International Judo Federation and United World Wrestling coaching certificates, and the master of sport and merited coach titles that carry weight in both countries. We translate these with the terminology of the international federations and the Georgian federations' registration rules, and Georgian coaching qualifications into Mongolian for Georgian coaches hired in Mongolia.

Curricula, hours and what assessors check

Both recognition bodies read beyond the diploma. The Mongolian ministry looks at the program's duration, credits and hours, the mode of study and the university's accreditation; Georgian universities issue the Diploma Supplement in English with ECTS credits, and where Mongolian assessors want hours we add them from the university's records and translate the curriculum when the graduate's advisor recommends it. The Georgian Center looks at years of schooling and the authenticity of the certificate. We prepare the translations so that the checking officer finds what they look for without asking for more.

School certificates, student letters and language certificates

Mongolian families in Tbilisi enroll children in international and Georgian schools with school records translated; Georgian families in Mongolia need Georgian school records translated for Mongolian schools. Students need enrollment letters and student status letters in the other language for permits, banks and scholarships. Mongolian language proficiency certificates, and Georgian and English certificates from Georgian universities, are translated for universities and employers in both directions, as are the Georgian language certificates that Mongolian students of Georgian earn.

Motivation letters, recommendations, research documents and timing

Mongolian applicants to Georgian programs and Georgian applicants to Mongolian ones ask us to translate or edit motivation letters and CVs, and to translate recommendation letters from professors while preserving the signature block; doctoral candidates need research proposals, thesis abstracts and publication lists translated, and researchers collaborating on mining, geology, pastoral and mountain-development, medical and linguistic topics use our editors for articles. Native Mongolian and English editors with academic backgrounds handle these texts.

On timing: Georgian admission runs through the summer, the Center's recognition of school certificates takes weeks and is best started before arrival, the Georgian education verification and apostille of a diploma take up to five business days, the Mongolian ministry's recognition weeks to months, and courier time to Mongolia is four to six days each way. Start the apostille of the diploma the week of graduation, and ask for a digital certified translation first so that an employer or a further-study application can proceed while the paper originals are in process.
