Turkish in Georgia: Batumi, Sarpi and a border that a million people cross a year

The Sarpi crossing between Adjara and Turkey is one of the busiest land borders in the region, and everything that crosses it produces paperwork. Turkish construction companies build Georgia's roads, hydropower plants and hotels; Turkish textile and food factories operate in Adjara and Kvemo Kartli; Turkish investors own hotels, casinos and apartments in Batumi; Turkish trucks carry Georgian and Azerbaijani cargo to Europe; and Turkish tourists fill Batumi in summer. In the other direction, Georgians work in Turkey, study at Turkish universities on Türkiye Bursları scholarships, travel to Istanbul and Ankara hospitals for treatment, and marry Turkish citizens. Turkey's own certification system - the yeminli tercüman sworn before a noter, the noter onaylı tercüme, the apostille from the kaymakamlık or the adliye - meets Georgia's notarized translation at our office at David Agmashenebeli Ave 117, where native Turkish translators are registered with the notary and translation and notarization happen in one visit.

Translation directions for Turkish

  • Turkish → Georgian: passports and kimlik cards, driving licenses, nüfus kayıt örneği, doğum and evlilik belgeleri, adli sicil kaydı, diplomas and transkripts, ticaret sicil gazetesi, şirket ana sözleşmesi, vekaletname, iş sözleşmesi, bank statements, hospital reports and court decisions entering the Georgian system, always notarized in Georgia. Passports and driving licenses are translated from a photo without a visit. e-Devlet documents with QR codes are translated including the verification block.
  • Georgian → Turkish: Georgian civil status certificates, diplomas, court rulings, Public Registry extracts, medical records and contracts for the Göç İdaresi, nüfus müdürlükleri, YÖK, Turkish universities, hospitals, noters and courts, notarized and apostilled.
  • Turkish ↔ English, Turkish ↔ Russian and Turkish ↔ Arabic: direct translation for Turkish groups with English-language reporting, for Russian-speaking residents of Batumi dealing with Turkish authorities, and for Turkish companies serving Arabic-speaking clients in Georgia.

Bilingual Georgian-Turkish templates for the standard civil status certificates, nüfus records and House of Justice extracts allow us to deliver a single certificate within 1-2 hours.

What Turkish and Georgian authorities expect from each other's documents

Turkey and Georgia are both parties to the Hague Apostille Convention, so a public document from one country is recognized in the other once apostilled by the issuing country; there is no consular legalization. Turkish authorities are particular about translations: the Göç İdaresi, nüfus müdürlükleri, noters, courts and YÖK expect a translation made or certified by a yeminli tercüman registered with a Turkish noter, and many will not accept a foreign translation directly. Our Georgian-to-Turkish translations are therefore prepared to be re-certified by a partner yeminli tercüman and noter in Turkey without re-translation, or, where the Turkish office accepts it, apostilled in Georgia as a notarized translation. Georgian authorities, in turn, require any Turkish document to be translated into Georgian and notarized by a Georgian notary; a noter onaylı tercüme from Turkey is a foreign notarial act and is not accepted on its own.

How Turkish clients order, in Tbilisi, in Batumi and from Turkey

Clients in Tbilisi send a photo on WhatsApp or Telegram, in Turkish, and receive a quote within 15 minutes. For passports and driving licenses that is the end of the visit-free process: pay by card or transfer, and the courier brings the notarized translation. For other documents the notary must see the original, so you come to Agmashenebeli 117 once, when the translation is already prepared. Batumi is where most of our Turkish clients are, and while our Batumi office is being renovated, clients there and in Kutaisi send originals by courier and receive the finished documents back the next day. Clients in Istanbul, Ankara, Trabzon, Rize or Artvin who need a Georgian document arrange for us to collect it from a relative or a Georgian archive; we translate, notarize, apostille and ship by courier, which reaches Istanbul in two days and the Black Sea provinces in one.

Turkish translation - frequently asked questions

Does the Göç İdaresi accept a translation made in Georgia?+
Usually it wants a yeminli tercüman's stamp from Turkey. Our Turkish translation is prepared to be re-certified by a partner yeminli tercüman and noter in Turkey using our text, which is faster and cheaper than translating from scratch there; the Georgian original must be apostilled.
Can I use a noter onaylı tercüme from Turkey for a Georgian residence permit?+
Not on its own. Georgian authorities require notarization by a Georgian notary. We review the Turkish translation and, if accurate, our registered translator signs it and the notary certifies it, at a lower price than a new translation.
Do you accept e-Devlet documents?+
Yes. Adli sicil kaydı, nüfus kayıt örneği, öğrenci belgesi and other e-Devlet PDFs with QR codes are translated including the verification block and notarized; most Georgian offices accept them.
Can I get service in Turkish?+
Yes. Our Turkish-speaking managers and translators communicate in Turkish on WhatsApp, Telegram, phone and in the office.
