The Georgian school certificate and what foreign universities look for

The Georgian certificate of complete general education (the "atestati") is issued at the end of the twelfth grade with an annex listing the subjects and grades, and it is accompanied, for university-bound students, by the results of the national school leaving examinations and the Unified National Examinations administered by the National Assessment and Examinations Center. Foreign universities admitting Georgian school leavers to bachelor's programs assess the certificate for equivalence with their own entry qualification: some countries admit on the Georgian certificate directly, others - Germany with its Studienkolleg, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries, Austria - require a year of Georgian university study or a preparatory course in addition, and each university publishes its rule. The certificate is apostilled through the education verification route in up to five business days, translated into the university's language and notarized, and the examination results are translated with it where the university asks. We translate the certificate and annex field by field, with the Georgian grading scale explained in a note, and advise on which additional documents - the national examination results, a university transcript for a completed year - the destination expects.

Foreign school certificates for Georgian universities

Georgian universities admit thousands of international students every year - to medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, business, IT and engineering in English and Russian - and every one of them arrives with a school leaving certificate that the university and the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement must recognize before enrollment: the post-Soviet attestat from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Ukraine and Russia, the Indian CBSE and state board certificates with their mark sheets, the Nigerian WAEC and NECO results, the Turkish lise diploması, the Iranian pre-university diploma, the Chinese high school graduation certificate, the Thai Mathayom 6 certificate, the Malaysian SPM and STPM, the German Abitur, the French baccalauréat, British A-levels and IGCSEs, the American high school diploma, the International Baccalaureate. The Center checks the years of schooling (twelve, or eleven plus a year of higher education in some cases), the document's authenticity and its apostille or legalization, and universities check the subjects and grades against their program's requirements. We translate the certificate and its transcript into Georgian and notarize it in 1-2 hours from the apostilled original, explain the country's grading scale and system in a translator's note, and know which documents the Center and each university's international office expect from each country.

School enrollment: children moving between countries

Families move, and children need to enter school in the middle of a system that does not know them. Georgian families going abroad need the child's school records - the annual report cards, the certificate of basic education issued after the ninth grade, the transfer certificate and the personal file - translated for the receiving school and the local education authority, which place the child in the right year and arrange language support; foreign families arriving in Georgia - diplomats, business families, the Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian, Iranian, Indian and Turkish communities, teachers at international schools - need the child's report cards, certificates and vaccination records translated into Georgian for Georgian public schools, the Ministry of Education's enrollment procedure and international schools. We translate school records in the child's language pair in a day, keep the family's documents in one glossary so that each year's records match, and explain the source system's year structure and grading in a note so that the receiving school places the child correctly.

Old certificates, Soviet-era attestats and lost documents

Not every school certificate is recent. Adults applying for recognition of a degree are asked for the school certificate that preceded it, which may be a Soviet-era attestat in Russian and Georgian, a certificate from a school that no longer exists, or a certificate from another republic issued before independence; we translate these with a note on the system of the time, and advise on obtaining a duplicate from the Ministry of Education's archive where the original is lost. Vocational school certificates and diplomas of professional colleges, which in many systems replace the final years of general school, are translated with an explanation of what they qualify the holder for, since the Georgian Center and foreign universities treat them differently from general certificates.

What gets school certificates queried

The errors that delay admission are predictable: a name on the certificate transliterated differently from the passport (the most common by far, and unavoidable for students whose certificate is in Cyrillic or another script and whose passport uses a Latin transliteration), a certificate without its annex of grades, an annex without the certificate, examination results submitted without the certificate they belong to, an apostille or legalization missing, a certificate from an eleven-year system submitted without the additional year the Center requires, and a translation that omits the school's stamp or the certificate's registration number. We check every certificate for these, transliterate from the passport with a note on the variant, translate every stamp and number, and tell the student or family what is missing before they submit.

Pricing, timing and how to order

School certificates with their annex are priced at a fixed rate per document, whatever the language, with a modest supplement for rare languages, plus the notary's fee; school report cards and records per page; the apostille on a Georgian certificate at the state fee plus handling. A certificate with its annex is translated in 1-2 hours from the moment the original is with us; a set of school records in a day.

To order, send photos of the certificate, its annex and any examination results or apostille on WhatsApp or Telegram, and tell us the university, school or authority and the country; the quote arrives within 15 minutes. Bring the originals to Agmashenebeli 117, near Marjanishvili Metro, when the translation is ready, or courier them from any city; students arriving in Georgia without an apostille are told exactly what a relative must do at home. Delivery is by scan when the notary signs, by collection, by same-day courier in Tbilisi or by courier anywhere.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Georgian school certificate enough for a bachelor's abroad?+
In some countries yes, in others - Germany, the Netherlands, the Nordic countries, Austria among them - a year of university study or a preparatory course is required in addition. Each university publishes its rule, and we advise on which additional documents to translate.
My certificate is in Cyrillic and my passport in Latin script. Will the names match?+
We transliterate from the passport and note the variant on the certificate, which Georgian universities and the Center accept. If the difference is substantial, a certificate confirming identity of names from home resolves it, and we tell you in advance.
Do you translate examination results as well?+
Yes. National examination results, UNE scores, CBSE mark sheets, WAEC results and similar are translated with the certificate where the university or the Center asks.
How long does a school certificate translation take?+
One to two hours from the apostilled original. The apostille on a Georgian certificate takes up to five business days through the education verification route.
