CNRED: recognition of Georgian degrees in Romania
A Georgian university degree used in Romania for employment, for a regulated profession or for postgraduate study goes through the Centrul Național de Recunoaștere și Echivalare a Diplomelor (CNRED) within the Ministry of Education, which issues an atestat de recunoaștere for academic recognition; regulated professions additionally go through the competent ministry or college - the Ministry of Health and the Colegiul Medicilor for doctors, the OAMGMAMR for nurses, the Ordinul Arhitecților, the Ministry of Education for teachers - with translated proof of practice and, for non-EU health degrees, examinations. The CNRED application, online, requires the apostilled diploma and foaie matricolă or supliment with traduceri legalizate, the program of studies for some fields, and a fee; secondary certificates for university admission are recognized by the CNRED or the county school inspectorate. We translate the Georgian packet in the CNRED's format and arrange re-certification and legalization, and our medical translators, who are physicians, translate clinical subjects using the terminology of Romanian medical faculties.
Romanian medical universities: Cluj, Iași, Timișoara, Bucharest, Târgu Mureș
The Iuliu Hațieganu University in Cluj-Napoca, Grigore T. Popa in Iași, Victor Babeș in Timișoara, Carol Davila in Bucharest and the university in Târgu Mureș run large English-language programs in medicine, dentistry and pharmacy that draw students from across Europe, and Georgians are among them. Admission requires the school leaving certificate with national exam results showing biology and chemistry, translated and certified, a CNRED or university recognition of the certificate, proof of English and, for some universities, an entrance examination or file assessment; enrollment requires the apostilled originals with traduceri legalizate and the atestat, and the student permis de ședere at the IGI requires the admission letter, proof of funds and health insurance. On graduation, the Romanian diplomă de licență and supliment must be apostilled by the Prefectură and translated into Georgian for the recognition center and the Georgian licensing procedure, with clinical training records. We keep each student's file consistent from admission to graduation.
Moldovan universities and the Moldovan diploma in Georgia
Georgian students also study at the Nicolae Testemițanu State University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Chișinău and other Moldovan universities, and Moldovan graduates work in Georgia. Admission requires the school leaving certificate or previous degree translated and recognized by the Moldovan Ministry of Education through its recognition centre; the Moldovan student residence permit at the ASP requires the admission letter and the Georgian conviction certificate. Moldovan diplomas used in Georgia - and Romanian ones - must be apostilled (by the Moldovan Ministry of Justice or ASP, or the Romanian Prefectură) and translated into Georgian and notarized in Tbilisi for the National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement, with the diploma supplement and, for medical graduates, residency certificates and the Ministry of Health license. Romanian degree titles - licență, master, doctorat, and the older diplomă de inginer - are explained in a translator's note for a Georgian committee.
Workers' qualifications for the aviz de angajare and employers
Georgians recruited to Romanian shipyards, construction companies, factories, logistics firms and hospitals need translated qualifications where the job requires them: technical school diplomas, vocational certificates, welding certificates for the Constanța and Galați shipyards, machinery operator certificates, driving licenses and atestate for professional drivers, and for healthcare workers nursing and caregiver diplomas with curricula and work records for the OAMGMAMR recognition. Employers and agencies send us candidate groups, which we process with consistent terminology and the Romanian names of occupations from the COR classification, so the IGI files are uniform. Georgian nurses and caregivers heading to Romanian hospitals and care homes are a growing group.
School certificates, student letters and language certificates
Romanian and Moldovan families in Tbilisi enroll children in international schools or Georgian public schools with foi matricole and adeverințe de elev translated; Georgian families moving to Romania, including workers' families under family reunification, need Georgian school records translated for the school and the inspectoratul școlar, which places the child in the right year and arranges Romanian language support. Students need adeverințe de student and student status letters in the other language for permits, banks and health insurance. Language certificates - Romanian proficiency certificates for citizenship and regulated professions, translated into Georgian, and Georgian or English proficiency certificates translated into Romanian for universities - are handled the same day.
Scrisori de intenție, recommendations, CVs and timing
Georgian applicants to Romanian and Moldovan programs ask us to translate or edit scrisori de intenție and CVs to Romanian or Europass conventions, and to translate scrisori de recomandare while preserving the signature block; doctoral candidates need thesis abstracts and publication lists translated, and researchers collaborating with Romanian institutions use our editors for articles. Native Romanian editors with academic backgrounds handle these texts.
On timing: CNRED recognition takes one to two months, Romanian medical universities' international admissions close in summer with file assessment following, Moldovan admissions run in summer, re-certification and legalization in Bucharest take a few days, and the apostille on a Georgian diploma can take up to five business days. Start the apostille early, since the apostilled diploma is reusable, and ask for a digital certified translation first so you can upload it while the paper originals are in process.
